No, it was all about Karolina being too good. Venus has been a sub-par opponent today. I totally dislike Pliskovas personality, but when she is in zone, its beautiful watching her. Just like today.
If Venus can't do anything against the only player in the draw more disadvantaged by slow courts than herself, and in about the worst form of anyone else here...
Super solid from Karoline. Well done - a very measured, focused performance. Can see her winning this tournament if she keeps playing this solidly
Venus eh, I don't know what to say. Not good though. She should enjoy the sights in Singapore, have a nice week, take her cheque and go home. The pace of her average ball just seemed so... slow. She just didn't look like she was going for it at all. Anyway I suppose there are 2 more matches but yeah... not expecting anything from Venus here except for being a placeholder.
Venus did not have to come out and try to hit 1-3 shot rallies on this court, nor should she have expected to. Lindsay Davenport said Venus was the most vocal in complaining about the slowness of the courts pre-tournament, so she should have known that wasn't going to work.
No tactics and absolutely no kind of adjustments were made, which is typical for her. And she looked like she didn't give a fuck at all.
Incomprehensible why Venus thought she could come here with no matches since USO and compete against the top 8 in the world. Very stupid, this isn't Zhuhai.
Pliskova rightfully swatted her away, Venus is going 0-3 here unless she has a miracle.
Very poor play from Venus. I think she's used to playing against low-ranked players in the earlier rounds while she gets into the swing of the tournament.... she obviously has the ability because it showed up for a couple of points and games here / there. But she desperately needs to step it up.
Karo on the other hand has smartly gotten to Singapore really early and made herself accustomed to the courts. This was quite possibly her best match of the year, even if Venus was playing closer to her peak I think she would have won this.

Before the YEC, the sport sections of the Czech press were full of articles saying that while Karo would have preferred to be already on a vacation, she was actually pumped up, highly motivated and determined to give her best at the very last event of the season, one of the reasons being that the end-of-season No. 1 rank is still on the line.
Also has a new (temporary) partnership going with Ms. Stubbs.
By all accounts, she's excellently prepared for this YEC.
the return made all the difference for once, karo managed to get an awful lot of balls back on venus' first serve. looks quite promising i have to admit, you go girl!
venus didn't seem to be all that well prepared for this YEC tho. weird errors all over the place off both wings, at least the net play was quite decent and a firm reminder of what she's capable of.
It is so easy to distill miss older Williams these days. No wonder it is October month when Williamses are ripe and begging to be turned into a fine pure brandy. Garbine has shown in Wimbledon how it is done. Seems like all the other girls are picking up on a recipe, Pliskobot might as well set new standards since she lost only 4 games! :spit:
Sometimes bagels do come out of the pipe alongside this brandy just for those who have sweet tooth. We all might get pretty more drunk as this process in White Group is to be continued! :hah:
Congratz Karo, not a fan of hers but she played up to her name, nice to see her bounce back after all critics, she played fair and square.
Venus who brought you here? :smash: Seriously old lady, draw a line look you cant do anything anymore you are not threat anymore, just retire and be remember as a multislam champ, you dont want anymore dissapointments. You cant cope with top players anymore!
Vee fans! Must have nerves of steel following her, i am not bashing her, we all know what reality is and shouldnt be blinded. And pls no more Sjogrens excuses. Lady is old unfit, unfocused, is outhit by everybody and represents no challenge anymore.
Exemplifies how fortunate Venus was with her Slam draws this year. When she's against the top players she gets mauled. Pliskova was nearly inside the service box returning those puffball 2nd serves.

Venus should withdraw. Even [Alt]Mladenovic would put in a better display.
2nd serve was softer than ever. Movement has gotten slower and slower since Wimbledon. Was off balance and/or falling backwards on more than half of her groundstrokes. YIKES.
Raonic played well though. Brought her A-game at the beginning of the match but soon realized that her B-game would be more than enough to cruise. I think she might actually have a chance to go 3-0.
Old lady came here only for them dollar bills! Pension incoming and lawsuit about to be paid, quite a few expenditures and carreer is nearing its end. Quite logical! :yeah:
Venus was terrible. Bad serving and slow and plenty of UEs. Pliskova looked good but I think it's impossible to judge her form after such a match, she didn't have to do much tbh. I hope the next matches will be better.
