Moscow F: Görges wins 1st title in 6 years defeats Kasatkina 61 62
Fabulous stuff from Julia today. Her serve was clicking. Her groundstrokes were penetrating. Her FH was explosive. (I think she may have hit more FH winners than there were games played today. Can anyone confirm?) Her performance today never allowed Kasatkina to gain a foothold in the match. An impressive way to win her first title in ages after a bunch of finals this year. Congrats!!! Her emotions at the end were wonderful to see. This must have meant so much to her.
I think she's back in Top 20, too, and will finish the year as the highest ranked German in the WTA.
Angie could still overtake her in Zhuhai, but it looks pretty safe that Julia will be No.1 in early 2018 because she doesn't defend much until Mallorca while most of Angie's points come from the first half I think.
Daria put up an absolute stinker and just shat her pants infront of her home crowd in the final.
Not that she was going to do much though, with the way Julia was playing today. Absolute masterclass from Julia and Daria winning 3 games was perhaps expected seeing the gulf in class today.
Kasatkina was in the softer half and she would hit those soft balls and players like Begu made errors. Goerges put those off speed balls away
Kasatkina wasnt playing well and it wont ever be close playing like this
She's playing at some level now all of a sudden, having been plodding along for years in the lower half of the top 100, playing doubles with ALG etc. She might actually do some real damage next year in big tournaments on slower surfaces playing like this.
Undisputed German number one, who would have thought that two years ago?

Tennis and talent lost here. It is just one of those days when you can buy a lotto ticket and win a jackpot when everything turns out lucky for BBB. Julia falling in tears after a win just shows she is also aware that tennis has lost here today! :spit:
As of Julia, 84years gif for winning comes to mind!

Jules I knew you had it in you, all those years and talent wasted
34 winners to 11 errors, she can defeat anyone playing like this, hopefully, she has a top 10 season next year
Julia is a great player on her day but there should really be no excuses for Kasatkina to play so poorly though, unless we're talking Serena-Sharapova Olympics 2012 levels of NID. It's not her first final either. How can deal with the likes of Ostapenko and Kerber and not know what to do against Julia? Even her doubles partner in the other Dasha has put up an overall better fight in her finals and against more accomplished opponents.
Congrats to Julia, very well done this week.
But Kasatkina needs to work hard now, she's playing a couple of good matches but to string them into titles she needs to work on her strategy and mentality. Of course maybe she just isn't that strong indoors, where it is easier to hit clean through the ball. I don't doubt she has talent but it's a shame to see her play very well one day eg. against Ostapenko and then fade away a round or two later, and sometimes badly. Hopefully she can improve this and use 2017 as a nice learning experience to go in 2018.
Back where she belongs! I couldn't be more happy for her! Well done Julia! Now get some rest and do some damage in Zhuhai!
Julia really improved within 6 years, I mean she was great when she won Stuttgart but now her backhand is much better and she can show some great stuff on the net. But above that all, her mentality is finally working well. I'm just so relieved. She deserved it.
Dasha was too nervous today, and she had a total offday. But I'm really proud of Dasha. She has made unprecedented steps since the US Open. I also have a lot of confidence in the collaboration with DeHaes.
Kasatkina started pushing and allowed Jules to gain confidence by being up on the scoreboard.
She started the 2nd with the right attitude, but could not convert her chances when she had the momentum and with the pressure in her side and jules confidence with her leading on the scoreboard it was NID that Jules will win.
Jules deserved it for her year I am happy for her.
It will be one more match for Dasha to understand that you can't start a match pushing and letting the opponent building confidence and put pressure on yourself.
I already said it but for me it's a good thing that Kasatkina losing when she 's playing like that, the worst would be to win and think she can continues with her pushing mindset.
She's still young, she has time to improve those few things and she will win many titles. She's such a nice human being that I hope that it will come as soon as possible, she deserves it.
