Olympic draw:Round III

Got to looking at the Olympic draw finally

01 BEL HENIN-HARDENNE
__ AUS PRATT

__ FRA PIERCE
06 WILLIAMS

03 RUS MYSKINA
__ GRE DANIILIDOU vs 15 BUL MALEEVA

11 ITA SCHIAVONE
__ COL ZULUAGA

08 JPN SUGIYAMA
12 CRO SPREM

__ USA RAYMOND
__ AUS MOLIK

05 RUS KUZNETSOVA
10 SUI SCHNYDER

16 USA RUBIN
__ ITA CAMERIN vs 02 FRA MAURESMO

A couple things freak me out.

Who would have believed the American singles players would be Venus, Chanda and Lisa Raymond?

I'm surprised the Russian team is already down a player.

I have no idea who'll win. Mauresmo has the best draw, but it's hard to imagine her winning a Gold medal. Given her match vs Kuznetsova is going to be a bt 'under the radr', I think she's a near lock for a silver. Myskina has the next best draw, but her semi will probably be pretty tough.

Proud to be an American
Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

It won't be all that easy for Mauresmo. Chanda did beat her at the YEC.

I put in bold who I think will advance to the QF. The way the draw is stacking up, anyone is ripe for any upset, but of the top four seeds that are still in, I don't see Myskina advancing past the QF if she gets there, mainly because her draw isn't getting any easier.

A couple months ago, I (and a lot of other people) expected the Olympic singles players to be Lindsay, Serena and Venus, or maybe even Jenn. Chanda was very unlikely, and Lisa Raymond wasn't even in the discussion. I must say, given how she got treated in 2000, I'm very happy for Raymond. She not only gets to go to the Olympics, she gets to play singles and doubles. BJK did treat her rather shabbily last time, even though what happened was within the letter of the rules.

Thanks for the explanation but when I saw Vee's name in there I was thinking something else.

Question

The biggest question is who would have thought the three American singles players, none of whom are in the top ten, would advance to the third round and two of the four Russian singles players, one of who is in the top ten and the other who is in the top 15, would be gone by the third round?
