Re: AO Series Player Fields 2018

Serena should start with Holman Cup.
Serena having a Caesarean makes it far less likely she will play AO. It was one thing for her to come back in 3 months with a natural birth, where all her ab and stomach muscles would be unharmed, but she would not have been allowed to play sport for about 6-8 weeks after Olympia's birth because these muscles were cut for her birth. Not only does this delay her training, it also will mean she won't be as strong when she resumes training. I think Indian Wells or Miami is far more likely at this stage.

We should expect more player announcements in October. :)

Off seasons threads are being created earlier and earlier each year!

Although, following the Wuhan flop my mind is also wandering off into 2018! ;)

Halep's bonus is from last year's ranking. She will get $1 Million if she plays all the PMs and all 5 P5s. Only 2 P5s have to count on the rankings but players must play their commitment tournaments or they get a 0, like Konta did this year when she skipped her committed tournament (Dubai) even though she played the other 4 P5s.

Last year Caroline Garcia play Limoges (WTA125) after Zuhai, then start his year directly at AO.
She's now Top10 and ends her season 2 weeks sooner, will she play before AO (I hope so) ?

Last year, France played the Fed Cup final in November, and I think that she did not play before the AO because of that. In 2013-2016 she played either Brisbane or Sydney, so I expect she will do the same next year.

Maria will not play Brisbane. She needs matches and she knows that the more she wins the more rhythm she'll have in her shots. She played some good tennis to win Tianjin and if it wasn't for her trip to Moscow being the next day I think she would have done well there too. I'm excited to see her enter a smaller tournament this time around before the AO.

Yes checking the EL now, quite a good list: https://www.sydneyinternational.com.au/players/women-singles
I can't remember much stronger lists for premiers, save maybe Stuttgart and in some years, Tokyo and Stanford.

VENUS WILLIAMS
JELENA OSTAPENKO
JOHANNA KONTA
KRISTINA MLADENOVIC
SLOANE STEPHENS
JULIA GOERGES
ANASTASIA PAVLYUCHENKOVA
ANASTASIJA SEVASTOVA
ASHLEIGH BARTY
ELENA VESNINA
MAGDALENA RYBARIKOVA
ANGELIQUE KERBER
BARBORA STRYCOVA
DARIA KASATKINA
DARIA GAVRILOVA
DOMINIKA CIBULKOVA
PENG SHUAI
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA
PETRA KVITOVA
LUCIE SAFAROVA
KIKI BERTENS
MIRJANA LUCIC-BARONI
SAMANTHA STOSUR

Such a loaded draw: 6 slam winners, and many have made slam SFs before or won premier events!

I've actually never visited the event live, I'm thinking this might be a perfect occasion for me to actually see my local event but pondering when to go.

The 3 day pass sounds really nice, $30 for any three days is a bargain just observing the field. I might pick a Thursday evening as well. And I might see my favourite ATP player, Nishikori play live for once and cheer him and Dash on.

Now that the player lists have been published for Shenzhen, Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney & Hobart - are there any notable absentees?

Aside from Serena & Kuznetsova.
