Wuhan R2: Ostapenko d. Strycova 2-6 7-5 6-3

Seriously, Ostapenko was in poor form and at 6-2 5-4 30-30, Barbora just had to keep the ball in the court to win this, but made two poor mistakes, allowing Jelena to stay in the match at 5-5, and that was it. From there the Latvian played slightly better, whereas the Czech was messy and of course using the absence of hawkeye to constantly dispute calls... she'll never change, right?

On a side note, many players seem to struggle with the Chinese heat.

Maybe not the best performance ever but got past an opponent who can be tough. Glad she won.

Good to see Ostapenko fighting back. Would have been easy to let this one go after a slow start, tired from last week and a tricky opponent, but she really hung tough in the second set. A number of spectacular winners as ever.

Strycova at her most cantankerous today. Spent most of the heat break bitching about it, it seemed.

Losing the 1st Set, then coming back in a tight fashion seems to be her style, huh, haha.

Since the start of the French Open, Jelena is 12-2 in 3 set matches. She seems to like a good fight

One step at a time, one after another, we ain't pushing it, it's not like she has stabilized her game yet, that's why she's being kept out of bigger courts, she needs more practicing to bring more solid performance. top 3 is for pushers, the goal is to become the best one on tour, top 3 is not what's wanted, but she has to be ready for that and it's not happening too soon.

Promising signs. No top 20 wins there admittedly, but that's 6 wins on the spin now following her poor North American swing, came from a set down in 3 of those as well which shows fight and character.

There's no better player to watch IMO than an in form and firing Ostapenko and her bursting on to the scene has been one of the best things to happen to the tour in a long time. Looking very good for Singapore now as well.
