Tough match. Shuai actually had this on her racket, but at 4-4* 30-15 Bot started to serve well, and Shuai struggled to get back in Karo's side...
All in all, Shuai is closer to this win. GL to Karolina in next round!

Zhang played so well, shame she couldn't get through the bot, that BH mistake into the net to give Pliskova 2 MPs should not have happened.

Sloane Stunning Stephens USO17 champ

Li Na | Carla | Sloane | Venus | Kerber | Dasha

Evonne Goolagong-Cawley - Australian Legend: 14 GS - 7 singles

Peng is still in the draw

true but I put all my money against her because of the 3.5 hour marathon she played, and she has to come out in an hour. If she beats Puig after that one, all kudos to her.

karos serve seems better these days, fast wuhan courts do help as well obviously.
maybe she can keep something going after the rather disappointing summer.

Glad for Karo to come through. It is a good sign that she still scores wins despite being way off her game for quite a while now. Even though I couldn't really ever tell in which match she truly peaked. It is more like her highs and lows are a lot closer together for nearly everyone else on tour at this point. Would be nice to see her up her level again in time for Singapore though.

Rest in Peace Bally!

I'm generally quite pleased when these home players go out. Can't blame the tournaments at all to put home players on Centre Court and it makes sense, especially with the already sparse crowds, but our broadcaster in the UK only show centre court matches and it gets a bit grim when you're literally just seeing Japanese players all the time like last week and Chinese players this week (regardless of who it is), where far 'better' looking matches are ongoing elsewhere.

Tashkent was worst yesterday, at least these Chinese / Japanese players do generally compete, but rather than seeing the likes of Vondrosova and Blinkova vs Bondarenko we got:

Fake Sharapova 1-6, 3-6
Amanmuradova 1-6 0-6

and today Abduramova 1-6 1-6,

Pretty pointless watching that tournament thus far on the main show courts

I don't know of many better matches going on today that on paper sound better than an on fire Shuai Zhang against the #3 seed, a player she held match point on at the US Open.

Wang vs. Stepehns featuring a home player versus the most recent slam champion yesterday, clearly was worthy of Center. Along with the thrilling match betwen Kvitova and Peng yesterday. Maybe Konta vs. Barty had more appeal than Zhang v Vekic yesterday, but if we're bemoaning one single match on a days play, I think it's time to sit down. Also, I think Konta has lost her rights to the center court based no her play as of late anyway.

I was speaking generally rather than individual matches - there have been 8 matches in the main draw featuring Chinese players and 7 of them have been on centre. It was always likely to happen so not really an issue with the tournament, just wish our broadcaster could show other courts. I'd personally rather have seen Ostapenko-Strycova or Wozniakcki-Sakkari over Peng vs Puig today. Likewise Gavrilova-Georges over the Vekic match yesterday. But it's not just those 3 - Wang, Zhang and Peng are decent enough and will be competitive against most especially on a home court, but Yafan (who) vs Cristea and Duan on Centre instead of the likes of Bellis-Barty (two young improving top 50 players) isn't great.

As i say, I don't particularly mind which players play on which court generally, but when your broadcaster only shows centre, it is a bit annoying seeing constant largely random Uzbek's, Japanese or Chinese players for 5/6 weeks straight.
