With that rate of seeds falling, the final might be Tsurenko-Teichmann.

Kuznetsova has started her final slump. She won't recover from this one unfortunately.

Wasn't aware she had injured her wrist. How long has this been going on?

Why should she risk aggreviating this injury? Just for money & elusive chance of making YEC?

I doubt it is anything serious if Svetlana showed up and finished her match.

Re: Wuhan 2R: Cornet def. [6] Kuznetsova 63 63

Seeds are coming to Wuhan with the mentality that the year is over.
So the hungry players are winning
Realistically, Sveta has been mediocre since her IW final. Vesnina has been terrible since then in singles. Sveta mediocre. A shitfest several months from both after meeting in a great mandatory final
Sveta was always inconsistent, but after IW and then Kasatkina won Charleston and Pavs won 2 Intls, I never expected such weak 3 majors from all 4 of them
The people saying the Russians are head cases, very true. If you told me after IW that the US Open would have Stephens and Keys in the final and the Russians cant get out of week one, I would never believe it

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Partially true, anyway. Some have mentally checked out, as you say. Others may still want to battle on but may not even realize that their mental/emotional reserves have been exhausted and they just can't summon up the necessary energy. Others are breaking down physically.

To me the big thing is that these days, players, the media, and everyone involved in the game acts like NOTHING matters except for the Slams. No one ever says, for example, that "Kvitova has won X number of tournaments this season/in her career", which both used to be very important stats; now it's pretty much only the Slam count that's mentioned. So how can the players be expected to pour all their might into thee post-Slam season? They've been taught that they're just biding their time till the Aus Open warmup season.
