Serena's Best Slam-Losing Final Performance?

We all know that the farther along a slam goes, the more formidable Serena becomes. But she has been bettered in six tournaments. Where did she perform best?

wimbledon 2008 when she lost to venus 5-7 4-6. she played as best as she could. both came into the final without losing a set. venus was just too tough, goating in that tournament.

2008 Wimbledon. She played like crap in almost all the others.

idk how anyone could pick anything other than wimbledon 2008 serena's winner-UE ratio was like 32-10 and she still lost.

Wimbledon skewed UE stats. She played average after the first 5 games.

I don't know where she played her best but I do know that even a peak version of herself would have had a great difficulty beating Stosur in that 2011 final.

Re: Serena's Best Slam-Losing Final Performance?

I'm surprised 3 people have voted for AO 2016. Probably one of the worst GS finals Serena has played despite the 3 set scoreline. Both Angie and Serena were quite poor in that final compared to how well they played in the QFs and SFs leading up to it.

Re: Serena's Best Slam-Losing Final Performance?

Wimbledon 2008 for me. She had early leads but Venus was unstoppable and found her way to win.
Then 2015 against Garbine where Garbine was mentally prepared for everything.
Then 2011 against Sam (But Sam really was playing excellently that day and exposed many holes in Serena's game)

Li Na | Carla | Sloane | Venus | Kerber | Dasha

Re: Serena's Best Slam-Losing Final Performance?

She was awful in 2004 and 2011.

2008 Venus was too good, but I actually voted for the match with Angie.
She wasn't at her best but kept fighting. ALL Credit to Kerber.

Re: Serena's Best Slam-Losing Final Performance?

Wimbledon '08 .. only time a Serena playing well was outplayed.

Obviously I hear the people saying that Stosur was the best performance vs Serena in a final... but Serena has always been bad in finals after a layoff.

Yes she was awful in 2004 or some people are having it tough to take that she was outplayed by Maria, easy peasy

Re: Serena's Best Slam-Losing Final Performance?

Without a doubt Wimbledon 2008. I actually think that was one of Serena's best Grass matches, it just happened that she faced the best grass court player at the time at her absolute sublime PEAK. It was a really astonishing performance from Venus.
