Tokyo QF: (1)Muguruza def. (9)Garcia 6:2 6:4

Unfortunatelly one of them had to go.

Caro seemed intimidated in the opening by Garbines presence Raised her game as it progressed in 2nd set. Shame it was a bit too late. So it looked like Muguruthless all around. Now get that title!

Caro! Cant blame her really for losing to BEST player in the World!

She's continuing her emphasis to play deep and heavy with controlled aggression.
She grows in her new position...

Very very bad performance from Caro.
Especially in the 1st set. Lots of unforced errors come from everywhere.

Not a good match at all, and imo Garbińe is starting to look like she's overplaying. She has barely stopped since the grass season and still has Wuhan/Beijing/The YEC. Also Garcia can be so bad that she can drag her opponent down with her, which explains a bit the second set shit show, but she is the most unclutch player in the top 20 and her ROS, with her ridiculous two steps inside the court positioning, is a non stop LOL, so still you never felt like she was really going to have a chance..

Only 5 posts???
Amazing first set and average second one.
Caro will never be a top 15 player.

Caro always loses the mini-battles against top players. She needs to work on that ROS too.

She's got Kerber first round of Wuhan as well. Tough luck.

Garcia had no net game - odd

(I thought her excellent doubles play would somehow help her in singles)

I am a little disappointed because I have the feeling that Caroline is very very tense against these top players. There is still a big step before she will be able to beat them and be closer from top 10.

Muguruza isn't overplaying. She does excatly what a No 1 Player should be doing: Playing Tournaments and winning Matches. She can do that because she isn't injured like she was last year at the same time and in early part of 2017. If she were injured that would be another different subject altogether. She is also playing more aggressive when she can since Wimbledon, taking time away from opponents, shortening the Points, coming in more and therefore taking the stress away from her body.
Speaking from overplaying: Her Semifinal Opponent Wozniacki is indeed overplaying in 2017 and may pay a heavy price for that in 2018.

Her net game would usually be the weakest link when playing doubles She usually partnered players with a nice net game who would be keen on playing S&V. She would keep herself pinned to the baseline when serving and in most return games.
