Guangzhou EPIC 1R: Han def. [7] Stosur 67(6) 63 75

Oh, Sam, did you come back just to torture us?

Sam leading 5-2 in the 1st set and had a SP at 5-3. Later wasting 4 SPs in a row at 6-2 in the TB.
Eventually leading 5-2 in the 3rd set and losing 5 games in a row. 2 pts away at 5-3 30-15*. Han won on the very first MP of the match (Sam did not have any).

Pironkova.Petrova.Kerber.Schnyder. Stosur.Jankovic.Kuznetsova.Kostova.Sevastova.
Pavlyuchenkova.Niculescu.Krunic.Radwanska.Date-Krumm.Kvitova.Vinci.Bacsinszky.

Well, Sam is a known choker The lack of fight in her match against Sorribes Tormo was painful to watch.

I've got to say that I'm a bit impressed by Sam's physical level because I thought that she would be rustier after that injury but her mentality was awful in these last two matches

Congrats Xinyun, btw

Not sure whether sam will come back from this, she's just not there. I hope I am wrong but this is an awful loss.

He probably read on google search or trip advisor that Istanbul is less expensive than Singapore.
Cool story bro.

You are not for these shitty tournaments. Focus on the important ones

I didn't even know Old Sam was playing anymore. I thought she had retired and was happily living in some lost aussie farm, baking koala pies and stuff

Re: Guangzhou EPIC 1R: Han def. [7] Stosur 67(6) 63 75

Weird - the first time I saw Han play, I think her first match at WTA level, was against Stosur in R1 of the 2010 AO. Han was a 19yo qualifier and this was in the days when Stosur actually played better in Australia than elsewhere, and it was a huge shock when Han took a set off her - I remember being impressed with her heavy strokes, unusual for a Chinese player.

Han spent half a decade in the wilderness but this definitely feels a bit like "finishing what she started nearly 8 years ago".

But it's not a shock anyway, given that Stosur's always been slow to come back from injury, her game is less effective against left-handers and Han had already shown she could counter it.

This is worse than that loss vs Sorribes-Tormo. Han is 27 years old and has never been in top 100,
choking as well ...
