Dementieva and deals in Japan? I don't even know that it's her target market...

Even athletes, especially athletes, need protection from overtraining and overstraining their hearts and other organs.

2017 is probably (1-7 Bridesmaidniacki's) best level of play ever

Simona, actually, has like 5 different winning strategies...
Maybe the God sent Ostapenko into the final in order to engrave the new Simona into stone!

Not buying into this "story" at all. They were taking this with a view to enhance recovery, not because they need protection from overtraining. Anyways not really going to argue about meldonium anymore as this thread is really more about Russian players and how they seem to be stickng in pack/ burying their heads in the sand...

The key word being "overtraining". So, people take it to be able to train harder than they normally would. That's... the definition of a PED.

For the record, I don't think those were some magical pills and that Sharapova's achievements are entirelly down to their use - far from it, actually. But she wasn't using it to treat her heart condition or because she thought they're like vitamins or whatever the prevalent narrative is at the time. She was using it because she believed it gave her an advantage, whatever that might be.
And it's fine, because that wasn't an illegal thing to do when she started it and for 95% of the time she was doing it. It just is what it is.

Athletes can take whatever (protective drugs, vitamins, placebos) with a view to enhancing their performance. Doesn't mean they enhance athletes' performance physiologically.

Btw Japan is a rich country and loves the blondes. It would've been a ripe market for Dementieva for a few deals if it weren't for Sharapova taking all the deals. I can understand the evil looks they direct her way.

There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth.

What they don't get is that using drugs to recover after draining matches or intense training sessions is not acceptable at this level. The competition is using ice baths and massages to ward themselves from fatigue, soreness and to stay fit for a full tournament.

If it's no biggie, why does Makarova feel the need to say that she was "not taking this thing"?

The more Maria, her fans and Russian players try to push these ludicrous narratives, the more they alienate people

Re: Why Many Russian Players Stand by Sharapova

For all those making the meldonium isn't a PED argument (including the nonsense from Vesnina, Sveta et al)

Remember Patrick Mouratoglou, commentating, watched Pova sucking down energy drinks and saying she would not make the second week?

I guess he's a hater because he coaches Serena and it doesn't matter that he was 100% correct.

Or if it prevents necrosys of he heart, it can be a protective drug taken to prevent long term, cumulative damage to the heart, not necessarily effective for immediate recovery.

She has blasphemed against the Holy Mother.

Her heart is so black and shriveled with corruption nothing could repair it.

And I guess chances of necrosys were always heightened during Slams and playing better opponents, therefore the quadruple dosis.

I am not a fan of the direction a lot of Maria threads have taken over the last 12 months.
The undertone is very disappointing, aggressive and the comments are sometimes rude to a player just trying to earn a living, playing her hardest and having a good amount of success given her god given, natural talents.
You made the list: NEW President Bouchard, Cibulkova, Mladenovic, Wozniacki, Kerber, Cornet, Watson, Broady.
Please note this is a signature about Tatjana Maria

Not even Meldonium can help with repairing a black and shriveled heart.

Re: Why Many Russian Players Stand by Sharapova

What the hell is "necrosys?"

(The word you're looking for is necrosis)

Also:

Quote:
Mildronate – what it is and how to use it

Mildronate (meldonium) improves metabolism and energy supply. Mildronate reduces the accumulation of toxic products and protects the cells from damage. The drug also helps quickly restore energy reserves.

Mildronate is used to treat a variety of disorders of the cardiovascular system. It also helps enhance physical and mental performance. Mildronate slows the formation of necrotic areas in acute ischemic myocardial injury. The drug increases myocardial contractility, increases tolerance and reduces the frequency of angina attacks in heart failure. Moreover, Mildronate improves blood circulation in acute and chronic ischemic cerebrovascular disorders. This drug is also used to eliminate functional disturbances of the nervous system in patients with chronic alcoholism (during abstinence syndrome).
