I still hope that Simona gets it, though I wouldn't bet on it! With no points to defend until Wimbledon, Stephens could have an outside chance... Svitolina may be #3 but she's still never been past a grand slam QF. Forget it being a joke if you get to #1 without winning a slam; this would blow that out of the water (so I hope, no offence Elina, that it doesn't happen).

Re: Who will be the 25th WTA No. 1? And when?

I have to believe in Muguruza as year end #1, next year maybe Halep or Stephens... I think Halep, she has very little to defend early next year and Stephens may suffer a bit of a first slam hangover.

Halep in China. Maybe Svitolina if Simona gets too nervous

Halep. Make it, please. I'd also like Svitolina.

Svitolina.

I can see her doing well in Singapore, and players like Konta, Kuznetsova, Ostapenko, and Kvitova won't have a chance until the Australian Open at the earliest.

Halep is a joke who will never reach #1. I'd put money on Mladenovic and Bouchard before Simona.

Not at all. She can easily get it before the next slam if she plays well. I would rate her chances actually really high. She's so consistent in her tour results, much more then the others. All she needs to do is do well in wuhan or/and beijing. If she wins wuhan, like the other 3 premier 5 she has won this year, she's pretty much there unless muguruza wins a title as well.

Between Pliskova, Halep, Muguruza and her, the one who does best in both wuhan and beijing will likely take the crown. There's just too much points to gain there (1900) and too little points between them.

Muguruza still has a chance to build a bit of a lead in tokyo, but only if she wins the title really.
