Lindsay Davenport WON'T win the 2004 US Open

You heard it here first. Davenport might sweep the SoCal circuit, she might win Newhaven in three weeks, but in New York when the money is on the line, she is going to be beaten. The other leading players are going to lift their level, and at Flushing Meadow one of them will expose the true state of Davenport's game - good enough to win Tier II's, but not good enough anymore to win a GS title.

Who? A limping JHH? A Serena who can't put a ball in court? A Dementieva who can't serve? A Sharapova too nervous to play on hardcourts? A Myskina who can't beat players that don't beat themselves? A Venus with a bum ankle? Suzzanne Lenglen ressurrected from the freakin dead? Who exactly do you expect to raise her level?

This isn't exactly a bold or profound prediction vogus. Really not worth making a thread about.

actually if Davenport can figure out a way to play Mauresmo in quarters, the semis AND the final of the USO, she can win the title. But otherwise no way.

Kniz, Davenport's on the verge of going undefeated in the summer hardcourt season - don't you think that IN THEORY that makes her the leading candidate to win the USO? I made this thread bcuz i don't think in reality that Davey is one of the players who is likely to win it.

Oh, of course in theory she is the favorite. She does have one more tournament to play before the US Open. I agree with you that in reality I don't think she is likely to win it.

We don't know if she will win it yet... It all depends on tomorrow's game... if she defeats Myskina... then i would say she would have a great chance of winning the USOpen

In the end it is still the same old me.

Why is that?

Isn't Lindsay already established herself as the force to beat at the USO when she fdefeated Venus @ Stanford and Serena in LA to win those titles?
I am sure before the start of the US summer HO season no one would have counted Linzi as a contender but she just proves us she is, more than that the player to beat.

she beat Sprem,Petrova,Dementieva, and the WS sisters on that surface.
You may argue that this beatings were due to injury specially with the case of WS but cmon, she is playing like she is just peaking.

If Linzi cud go on with this she sure will win the USO, the only thing that would prevent that is if she will burn-out of exhaustion.

I think even if she lost to myskina now, she is still up there a favorite to win the Open.
