Has Kim missed the boat?

I really fear Kim Clijsters will never win a GS now

Over the past few years when players have been at the top of the game - they have won GS titles.

Ie in 97-99 when Hingis was no1 she won slams, same with Davenport, Capriati and Venus. Others then over took them which is what I feel is gonna happen now with the Belgians and Kim won't make it.

I hope not, but I pretty much think this will happen, esp if she wants to retire in a couple of years.

My favourite players:

Venus Williams
2000 Wimbledon, US Open
2001 Wimbledon, US Open
2005 Wimbledon

Nastya Myskina
2004 RG Champion

I don't think so...

Before she got injured, she probably was playing about her best ever: she got to the AO final and came the closest to winning a Grand Slam title since losing the FO final to Jennifer in 2001. She still won 2 tournaments this year, lost only one match and is still 13th in the Race with virtually 3 tournaments played.

Of course it's gonna take a while to get back on track: If she'd win 1 more tournament this year I'd already consider that pretty succesful. Wait and see next year: hopefully she'll finally be healthy, and I think she could have got tougher with all these setbacks this year. Maybe it makes her more hungry. And don't forget, Kim has only been absolute top for about 1.5 year (let's say from fall 2002 until spring 2004) and I think we still have to see the best from her...

Let's just wait and see Good luck Kim!

Come on. Check grand slam records. Think of Andres Gomez who won his first grand slam when he was 30 or so. Think of Ivan Lendl who failed several times in a row before being one of the toughest slam contenders ever. If Kim Clijsters finds what's been lacking in her so far there's no way you can tell she'll never get there (I mean what I'm saying even though my heart belongs to her greatest rival).

Please come back in top condition, J... I miss you very badly

LOL. She turns 30 in only 8 more years and 10 months.

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

Lindsay looks like she could win the open. She is at the top of the game right now, If it is possible for lindsay at 28 after knee surgeries and a series of other injuries to be playing this well, it is still possible for Kim.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

If Sharapova and Myskina can both win grand slam titles, then so can Kim .

She's just as good as both of them.

Kim's tennis career is almost meaningless if she can't win a GS

I agree with you about Lindsay and I thnk its great that she's had this "surge" of form towards the end of her career, allowing her to go out on a high. Lindsay's case shows what a strange game tennis is and how difficult it is to predict your future.

I think Kim has easily enough ability and talent to win a Slam and anyone who doesnt think that should just look at her playing record since Autumn 2002 especially. But Kim still has to get over whatever mental demons destroy her at GS finals alone (she has just about every other tournament in the bag). My only "worry" about Kim is that she openly talks about having a relatively short career, so she is under pressure from herself to win one (and hopefully more) in a relatively small window.

If Kim comes back in September and can regain her previous form (ie that which she consistently held during the last quarter of 2002, the whole of 2003 and the first quarter of 2004), her physical game surely has what it takes to get to GS finals (and I dont believe all the chat that Sharapova will make mince meat of her on a regular basis). Kim's one remaining problem with her game - the mental side - doesnt start until she gets to GS finals, but its only there she can sort them out.

Patiently waiting to join the silver surfers

yeah poor pitiful kim will not a slam. sorry i just got caught up in your melodrama. kc is more dedicated to the game than the majority of the players. she'll find a way to get a slam or two even if doesn't happen until her mid 20's.
