Do you consider Sharapove American or Russian?

She's spent more than half her life on the American soil and speaks excellent English if not perfect. She was schooled in the U.S. and behaves more American than Russian in my opinion. She does speak Russian very well (dunno how well but heard ppl say so) and seems to identify herself as Russian rather than American.
But the media in most part seems to treat her as if she were an American and that's the way I look at her as well. She's just too different from other Russian players to be considered Russian.
What do you think?

dude what's up with all those Sharapova threads???
You better post those on the Sharapova board.

MARIA SHARAPOVA: "Amélie, you know it doesn't really matter at this point. I mean, I'd love to, I mean, Amélie is No. 1 in the world. She's playing great tennis. You know, I love that challenge of going out there and competing against the best in the world."
You'd love to what, Maria?

She is russian by blood and by heart.

It is her life and it has to be her decision to stay russian or to be an american.
It doesn't matter how well she speak english or how americanized she act, as long as she feels russian she will always be russian to me.

I dnt really care what country she will represent (unless its the philippines, LOL!) she is still my #2 fave.

depending on how you spell her name... the way it's spelled in the thread's name -American, if you spell it Sharapova - Russian.

only she truly knows what she feels like....

if i was asked i would say she is russian....

she was born there with russian parents and ideals, but raised for the most part in the united states... she's still a russian, but she leads an american life....

so she's a russian in the u.s.

What do you think?
She's from Siberia. Doesn't that make her a Mongol.
