How closely do you think players follow the tour while they're not currently playing?

I mean, if a player decides not to play a tournament or is injured, etc., how closely do they follow the current tournament? I remember when Lindsay was out for a while, she said that she barely watched any tennis on tv while at home. It's just funny to me to imagine a top player at home watching other top players battle it out on court, and it's funny to me too to imagine them follow scores like we do online! lol But they must get the latest news somehow; what made me think of this was a quote I read today from Myskina, she said that Lindsay is playing the best right now and it will be hard to beat her. Do you think she's been watching the CA tournaments on tv or her coach told her who beat whom or what? Just wondering....lol

different players have different attitudes i'm sure. i can imagine someone like hingis watching every match, but lindsay never seems to interested in anything - i mean i remember last year she was playing dechy somewhere (RG i think) she couldn't even remember if she had played her before even though they did only a couple of years previous.

some players seems to know all the rankings and results while others don't seem to worry about it.

Justine follows the men's tour over the women's, and has mentioned it in every single interview since her virus ...

Venus didn't follow in 2000 because it was "too emotionally painful" (Venus Envy...)

Martina Hingis, during her layoff in 2002, on the other hand, watched any match that she could find in order to scout her opponents.

I don't think many (if any) follow it that much.

when a player is injured they should be totally focused on their recovery and getting back to where they were and trying to get even better so it wouldnt surprise me if they didnt follow the tour because at that point the only concern for them is themselves, their body, their recvoery and their game. as for inbetween tournaments, i doubt they woulf follow the tour or matches or anything but im sure thru the ranks they would somehow gain the knowledge of what happened whether it be tennis results or just locker room stuff.

Go the aussies! stosur!!!
and good luck russians: dementieva, safina, kirilenko, sharapova, kuznetsova, bovina, zvonareva, dushevina.

also good luck to: azarenka, lucic, sprem, vakulenko, vaidisova, safarova, ivanovic, groenefeld, mirza, krajicek, kvitkova, larcher de brito, lisicki.

obviously it varies by the player. Some players probably are equally obsessive about keeping track of the tour as the wtaworld posters, while others are only vaguely aware of what happens in their absence. I'd imagine Jelena Dokic is the second kind.

I find none of the players are as hardcore as the fans in any sport. They are too busy playing it.

I always wondered are players aware of the point total they get for each win. Before there match to u think someone says yeah this girl is worth like 4 quality points and if u win ur rank will go up............. and so on. This i think would apply more to the challenger girls but what do u guys think
