Only caught the ending, Jo looked quite nervous and Ostapenko missed so many returns :hysteric: But that's definitely a quality win for Jo here :yeah:

I have never seen one player miss SO many returns, game after game after game. I understand that Ostapenko's game is aggressive, but she should really cut out basic errors and at least put the ball in play when her opponent is clearly tight and struggling to close out the match.

She has a lot to improve in her game and she wouldn't be the FO champion if Halep wasn't so mentally weak.

Oh well, at least Ostapenko can console herself by knowing she holds a Grand Slam and Konta doesn't.

That third set was a real rollercoaster, Jo went a break up, then Ostapenko was a break up and then finally Jo went ahead again and just managed to serve it out.

This was really disappointing end from Aljona after being 4-2 up. Her return was all over the place.

But I'm not too worried. Just a little improvement and she can make very deep run at the Wimbledon.

Also: If Ostapenko just had Konta's serve, she'd be virtually unbeatable at the current wta. Her serve is really atrocious and when also something else doesn't work perfectly, it's difficult to win matches against top players.

Really good battle and Jo did so well to come through having been behind and broken a couple of times in the decider. Ostapenko's groundstrokes were on fire.

Konta getting a lot of good scalps in this grass season so far, some people are being a bit too quick to dismiss her as a top level contender on this surface. It was here she first made her breakthrough, after all.

I'm pleasently surprised that Jo stick to her first goal to get strong first serves in whatever it takes. Saved her the match at the end.

RG champ ousted, #1 next. Don't know if Alona would have been better for Kerbs...

QF with [1], [2], [3], [5], [6], [7], a totally strong unseeded player from CZE and a surprising comeback of a WC
love it

Thought this was quite a good match & I'm happy for Jo. I really do feel that Jelena is the real deal & possibly won't even have the post slam slump. She has great fighting qualities. Thought Jo did well to get the win here as there wasn't much between them and she's got such a quick turnaround. Think both could do well at Wimbledon :D

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but until 4-2 final set, that was one of the contests of this year for me. So few unforced errors overall from both until then, yes Aljona missed a lot of returns in those last couple of Konta service games but some of Jo's serves were quite hard and Ostapenko was going for too much because of how well Jo played overall today.

Huge respect to both women, I am so glad Jo came through against an amazing talent like Aljona today, who, in the second set, was on fire. 19 winners, 7 unforced errors and 88% first serves made. She was not bad at all today, played well overall IMO. Even threw in some big second serves today at the end of that first set

Anyone who gets Ostapenko near them in the draw at Wimbledon should pray she doesn't continue this form. Wasn't even at her very best today and still pushed a good Jo to three very tight sets. I thoroughly enjoyed that contest, some of the rallies were brilliant and some of Ostapenko's winners are mind-boggling.

A really good and important win for Jo, I just hope she has enough in the tank to put up a good fight against Kerber in a couple of hours; that was mentally a very tough and draining match. Take a bow ladies! :worship:

Them both wanted to tank it, if you didn't happen to notice, so Baby Lena won it in this regard, not interested in being slayed by Kerber, it's Konta who's a local gurl and it's her duty to entartain and suffer full time at home
Your analysis is so incisive.

Though the final game did make me wonder again why so few players are "cold-blooded" closers.

Classic bratty Ostapenko. I just watched the highlights and in that tiny 2 minute snippet, Konta had 4/5 winners so coupled with her 9 aces and probable other winners in the match this seems like a gross lie by Ostapenko.

I want to like her given her game is so exciting, it's a shame she comes out with statements like this.

Good match from both. Nobody wanted to tank. Good first tournament after the major breakthrough from Ostapenko.

Ostapenko's return cost her the match. You just won't beat a top 10 player with her serve and an off-day on return. But if they play again at Wimbledon I'd back Osta 100%.

This was my first time seeing a Konta match with British commies in a while and I forgot how effing annoying their over-hyping is. And it's only gonna get worse.
