Can Serena or Venus still win US Open?

Is there anyone who still thinks Serena or Venus can win the US Open?

I think it's looking as if the problems are more deep rooted and with only about 5 weeks to go I doubt they are going to be able to turn their form round. I've been making allowances for their injuries and long time out, especially at RG.

Although Serena made it to the Wimby final she wasn't playing that well but after it I thought it would be a wake up call and saw her as USO Champ. It's just not that she lost to Lindsay, let's be honest she was badly beaten. There's something missing.

Vee's wrist is starting to look as if it will be a recurring injury and I wonder if it might be why Venus would decide she'd had enough? Perhaps the recent family tragedy is a big factor but that could also take a long time to recover from.

Serena, definitely and Venus probably still could make it back to the top but it's dangerous that the other players now no longer see them as invincible. Sadly, I can't see a lot of success coming this season. The draw at the USO will be vital but realistically it's not looking good for them.

Yes, they can still do it. But they'll need to play better than they have.

They are capable of it. They may not be in their best form at the moment but we still have four weeks to wait before the U.S. Open kicks in and I'm sure they will both adjust their game and have started winnin again by then.
I will not be surprised in the least if either of them wins it but I will be stunned if both do.

Serena's year in reveiw:
-Has won 10 out of her last 11 hardcourt matches this year
-Hasn't played and lost before the QFs all year
-In her last 4 events has only lost once before the Semi-Finals (two consecutive Finals)
-She has a winning record against the current top 10 (wta ranked) players she's faced this year, winning 6 out of 10 of those meetings this year.
-Has played 2 grandslams reaching the QFs of her first (in over 6 months) and the Finals of Wimby beating the highest ranked player in her draw
-Has only lost to two players ranked below her on the current Race standings
-Depending on how she fares at the US Open, she could potentially have the best 3 consecutive Grand Slam record this year....QF, F, ?
-She's only lost to the best players of the year, no losses to anyone ranked below 20 on the Porshce Race Standings and only once to a player ranked outside of the top 10 (Petrova)

Of course they can. There are still many tournaments left for both of them. Yes, Venus is workin through a minor injury and still a bit out of rhythm. Yes, Serena is not finding any kind of good tennis in finals but THEY CAN ONLY GET BETTER.

3 tournaments is alot of matches for them, plenty of time to find their form.

Defninitely the chance of one of the sisters winning the Open is much better than Sharapova winning Wimby. It's plain stupid and retarded to say they are history. Serena lost to Lindsay in a lopsided fashion but the Serena who is 1000 notches below her best is still able to beat out 95% of the tour. I think losing to someone like Lindsay in the way she did actually may work for Serena as it gave her an opportunity to learn.
Having said that, it's of little relevance actually that she has learnt a lesson or whatever. She's still a great athlete and proably the best tennis player on the tour when she's on. It's still her first hardcourt tourney this summar after all. I mean of course it would have been so much better if she had won the title but if she was to lose a match or two during the summar, better be here than when it really matters. I don't know if she lost today's final for the same reason that she lost to Maria cuz those were under different circumstances as well as different opponents. So, it may be not be too wise to attribute those two losses of Serena's simply to her lack of commitment to the game or too much time being spent on acting, which of course I believe has played a part but there are other things to consider.
However I'm still in the belief that she will find her game and start winning and dominating again by the time the Open starts.

Hmm,hmm.....I think, I think that they still are a threat, but they are no longer dead-lock favourites. I think the last part missing is winning a big match. Serena has been doing great reaching finals, but then she goes awry in the finals....that gotta improve. But matchplay might improve that. I hope?!

Oh lord!

Yes.

Serena- IMO, just needs to play agressively.
For the past two tournaments she's been to passive.
Going for it will put her right up there.

Venus- IMO, just needs to stay healthy.
For the past two tournaments that agressive nature
has resurfaced and needs her health to hold up and
she'll be right there.
