Lucic fought back well to gain control of the match......only to choke from 5-3. She missed some easy volleys and made some poor approach shot choices towards the end of the match. The match was all on her racket. She was brilliant in stretches, and god awful at other times.
Monica has struggled physically and gamewise throughout most of the year. Both players were pretty up and down today. But it was clear at the end this win meant a lot to Monica and I hope it will give her some much needed confidence going into Wimbledon and beyond. As for Mirjana, she has had her ups and downs this year but the ups have been outstanding and overall I'm sure she will get over this loss pretty quickly, despite her choke at the end, and she will quickly refocus on Wimbledon.
Will be interesting to see how she does next round against Petra, assuming Petra doesn't pull out. I've always felt Monica matches up pretty well against Petra but of course when Petra is at the peak of her game, and right now she isn't that far from it, it is a different story. Additionally, Monica hasn't been at her best and grass of course is very much Petra's friend, so it would seem unlikely Monica will do as well this time as she tends to in this match up. The only other time the two played against each other on grass was here 4 years ago. Monica won 5 games. I'd expect this to be similar. Even so, if the match happens, it should be enjoyable as their matches, particularly with their very different styles, do tend to be pretty entertaining.
Yeah, but the thing about Lucic is she can turn it around in one match. She has always been a very hot and cold player and there is no reason she cant or wont turn up at Wimbledon playing lights out tennis.
:hah:the funniest shitfest I've seen for a long time; only Monica (she's back from an injury) vs a genuine BBB on a bad day could provide this!
(the grass court and the wind created the perfect conditions for it)
