Who is going to be no.1 after Eastbourne:Kerber or Halep?

Halep originally planned to skip the grass besides Wimbledon but got a WC for Eastbourne as she has a legit chance to become the next (slamless) no.1. :SNE:

The 3 possible scenarios for Halep to overtake Kerber's top spot:
1) Kerber losing before the QFs and Halep reaching the SFs;
2) Kerber losing in the QFs/SFs and Halep reaching the F;
3) Kerber and Halep both getting to the F - the winner gets the no.1 ranking.

I doubt Simona got this WC aiming for the #1 spot. And considering the draw in Eastbourne, Angie seems to be safe until Wimbledon :wink2:

Then why didn't she just enter Birmingham and asked for an Eastbourne WC like a sensible player? :shrug:

I see nothing wrong with it. At first glance, it may look a bit hopeless, but who wouldn't do it? It may be her best chance. Everyone should be giving all in for every chance in front of them. Wimbledon might change everything in an instant and Halep would be never again be that close to the top. No.1 should be the goal, it shouldn't be just "enough" the fact that once in your career you were a set or 100pts away from it.

Its time for Halep! She had an excellent, almost great, clay season and she deserves to get to #1. Kerber earned it from last year, but with Wimbledon F points & USO Champ points coming off soon, its time for new blood at the top
Singapore could have 4 or 5 slamless players all going for Year End #1

It probably would be nice to have them both in the final with the winner getting the #1 ranking. I like those kind of battles. However, I'm not overfond of slamless #1's but if that's how the rankings work out so be it.

Yeah, that would be the best outcome. The no.1 proving she deserved it by defeating the other contender and winning a title, not just waiting for the other to fall off.

Kerber got a WC too. Probably the organisers thought a #1 fight will help the tournament, so they put something extra at the table for both. I except both of them to tank after 1-2 matches.

Ostapenko will end up as much better player than Halep :wavey:
Halep does not have weapons like Jelena and when she was old as Jelena is now, her best result was 3r :wavey:
Halep should thank god that Svitolina wasted 5-1 lead otherwise she would get nowhere close to Slam :wavey:

I do not want number one who has 1r losses in Slam and who is able to win just 4 games vs Shelby Rogers (with all respect to Shelby).

So I hope Halep keep her rank until after Wimbledon and then she is overtaken by Pliskova who has F, QF, SF (and Wimbledon result).

If Angie can't win this event I will be VERY worried about her. There is nobody who should beat her on grass except Serena, Venus in top form and Petra.

Having said that, I expect a loss in her first or second match...so I'm getting ready to worry hahafmlhahaplsnohaha

Kerber showed last year - and previously - that she can play on grass but I worry she is so out of sorts, an early loss could be on the cards, especially if she has bad luck with the draw. It will be interesting to see if Pliskova can do well at Wimbledon as her slam form has been amazing in the last 12 months.

Seeing Kerber this year, I don't know how she put last year together.

But Halep's comments on (un)equal pay have ensured that I will just about always root for her to lose.

As to the discussion as to who would be a better no.1 player? The ranking speaks for itself. If Halep can get there even while Kerber has a grandslam title and WTA Championship RU and Cincy RU (and really a great 2016 allround), then this goes to show how badly Kerber has played to lose it. Simple.

LMAO, what a mess!
Any scenario with either girl being ranked #1 whilst having done almost nothing this year makes me wanna puke.
Oh and good luck to the WTA promoting this mess of an event. Nobody cares for this silly ass "rivalry".
Kvitova had better step up and clean up this mess. I hope she'll get her 3rd Wimbly title and restore the proper order on the circuit.
