Dementieva's results for the past 52 weeks.

Canadian Open--SF

New Haven--SF

US Open--Round of 16

Bali--Champion

Shanghai--Champion

Moscow--SF

Filderstadt--QF

Zurich--First round

Championships--Round Robin

Sydney--QF

Australian Open--First round

Tokyo--First round

Paris--QF (losing to Golovin though)

Miami-F

Amelia Island--First round

Charleston--Second round

Berlin--Second round

Rome--First round

French Open--Finalist (her clay record going into the tournament was 2-4 )

Wimbledon--First round

Los Angeles--SF

Look at that inconsistancy! Her results from the second half of last year were pretty consistent, however (the first year 2003 was the same as this year, with a good result followed up by a horrid result .)

Sometimes I think that her weak second serves will eventually help her become mentally tougher than she is now. I admire her ability to not get down on herself as much as I would or any player would double faulting so much!

I hope she improves her serve someday because if she does she will gain so much confidence and consistency...

I agree E.Dementieva - I'm so tired of hearing about her serves!

Elena certainly has the game to become a more consistant player.Personally, i think she can go toe to toe with all the top 10 players. Her serve is one thing, but her ground strokes, forehand, backhand and dropshots, are all pretty damn good. her movement is awesome, so if she propells a player into a long rally, chances are , she'll pull through. However, there are times when her serve determines the outcome of a match!!!

Very inconsistent this year. However the BIg results make up for that.

I knew that when this year started, we'd see if Elena was true Top 10 material. And she has proved it with some quality wins this year.

As she has a new coach, and is working on new things, give her time. This year is one of trial and error. I cannot wait to see Dementieva in 2005.

I agree with Dee, give Elena more time... She can make it...
I did not watch her match today but seems that she has really added more variety in her game..

The old Elena would not have used drop shots or attacked the net or even use slices

I hesitate to point it out but if she was just consistent enough to get to GS Qf and QF/SF elsewhere instead of her early losses and kept her successful tournaments she would very soon be number 1 as the Belgian's points fall away. I think that tells you the players ranked above her are also inconsistent if less so.
