Re: Race to Singapore: Who's gonna make it?

It is still too close to call for now
Yeah it is but it is fun to discuss;)

From my point of view Svitolina, Pliskova and Halep are safe bets. The first ones are on their way up and will show some surprising losses but will keep their momentum to get in. Halep will show some more consistency so it is hard to see her not getting in. All others are not secured I would say. Would say that Mug will probably have one to three peak tournaments to catch up. Mladenovic has to prove herself the next couple of weeks. I am still not convinced with the Woz resurrection. Venus would be a great story, but age is a factor (I know it is being said a couple of years already and she proved us wrong:cool:) But still too vulnerable to see her already in. The threshold is still pretty low with 2800 points so even someone like Sharapova ot Azarenka could catch up, even though it is pretty unlikely. You can dream and see some youngster like Vondrousova catching a spot but hey, I know way too far fetched...

Anyway would be appreciated if this thread will be updated on a regular basis:worship:

All of the top 8 might get there. I see Pavs & Vesnina close but they need consistency

I would love to see the new 8 there though top 3 + Mladenovic look likely. Also Halep if she keeps cashing out her cakewalk draws. Caro and Venus will fade away.

But I think things will start falling into places when Paris ends.

Most likely Caro will come back strong on the US hardcourts, it's the surface that's making her look bad atm. I can see Venus fading away, but she might also post some impressive results at Wimbledon and in Asia. Her presence at the YEC is a toss-up for me.

Lol @ Halep's cakewalk draws. That Rome quarter (and her 8 especially) was one of the most brutal of the year. Somehow Siegmund is considered a brutal draw when she beats Konta in Madrid, but next week when she gets beaten by Halep in Rome she's a "cakewalk"? :grin2:

Re: Race to Singapore: Who's gonna make it?

I'll update this every week, but as of now, there are about 7 players that have really separated themselves and, all seven traditionally have very strong results during the grass/US Open series.

1. Elina Svitolina (2845)
2. Karolina Pliskova (2507)
3. Johanna Konta (2245)
4. Caroline Wozniacki (2240)
5. Simona Halep (2190)
6. Venus Williams (2127)
7. Kristina Mladenovic (2122)
8. Svetlana Kuznetsova (1815)
9. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (1542)
10. Elena Vesnina (1469)

*Notable Names*
12. Garbine Muguruza (1367)
13. Angie Kerber (1329)
31. Agnieszka Radwanska (672)
82. Maria Sharapova (310)
NR. Victoria Azarenka
NR. Petra Kvitova

I'd say the current Top 5 are locks but the last three spots are still very much in contention and will be for the remainder of the season.
How you get that when 6 and 7 are less than 70 points away from number 5 and almost 600 points away from number 9?

if anything I don't know about Kiki and Kuzzy but Venus' chances of gaining more points will probably increase after the French. Wimbledon and later have been her best part of the season since her first Slam and the last couple of years have again come back to that.

yeah, I was looking at that. 3-7 are about 123 points difference. and then Kuzzy is the next player at 8 and I dont see any reason she wouldnt have a strong hard court season.

Re: Race to Singapore: Who's gonna make it?

*dead* at the defending champion not even listed in the notable names. :spit:.

Mladenovic could be kicked out if Muguruza and Kerber catch fire but everyone else is pretty much a lock to either play or be an alternate.

In desperate need of star power, though.

Cibulkova could win a golden slam and I still wouldn't consider her a top player.

Re: Race to Singapore: Who's gonna make it?

Is Venus really going to stay up there, most of her points must be coming from the AO final.

her points are about 60% from the AO. shes got the least amount of tournaments played as well at 7. And yes as well as shes playing on clay if she plays the hardcourt season she will probably rack up more points.

Re: Race to Singapore: Who's gonna make it?

There are still 3 majors in the next 3+ months. A player like Kerber or Cibulkova can get back into it with a slam final or even SF.
I wonder if Aga is too far back, becaiuse most of the top 8 will keep adding points

Re: Race to Singapore: Who's gonna make it?

What a weak list of players :tape:

You know that WTA is in bad shape when Svitolina is #1 and Konta #3 :help:

Serena, Sharapova and Kvitova are missed a lot. The WTA needs the stars back

And Aga only #31 ??? She is in a very big slump at the moment
