The thrashing of Kvitova to Bouchard was so entertaining, to the point of being hilarious. The same with Serena thrashing of Safina. Very satisfying:lol:
You already Know-Serena the Goat's dismantling of Maria Sharapova,in 07 AO Final-the unsympathetic crowd was enthralled, entertained and awed by Serena's sublime play.
It has to be Petra whupping Ginny-Boo at Wimbledon, not least because the likes of Davenport, Evert and co had all but written off Petra's chances against the mighty champion of Nurnberg.
Not the Safina ones. The satisfaction with lopsided thrashings in GS finals is inherently about seeing an elite player or an overhyped player brought down. Safina never had an aura to puncture.
2007 AO was amazing simply because no one saw it coming. Serena was in such awful shape and form and only got into the second week because Petrova choked, Jankovic had overplayed then she got inexperienced Peer and Vaidisova. And then she stepped up SO much in that final, just astonishingly great
2012 Olympics were the opposite. Everyone saw it coming. All I can remember is being disappointed that it wasn't a double bagel, though.
Kvitova quelling the Bouchard hype was pretty special, too.
There are plenty of examples where Serena did the damage, but seeing one where the damage was done to her is just too much for certain Serena fans' tender feelings.
2007 Australian Open, everybody had written Serena off, if ever there was a statement Slam victory it was that one. Also it was her most genuine winning reaction.
Stosur beating Serena at the US Open was the best though. Despite her decent record against Serena nobody expected Sam to win, and she really peaked before a pro-Serena crowd. Impressive and unexpected result especially after losing in the final of the French too.
Most are not that entertaining at the time - for example, I think that Petra's win over Genie was just a horribly disappointing damp squib.
It becomes more entertaining in retrospect, with the bagel photoshop, and Genie's propensity to scoff bagels left, right and centre, along with some moments of disagreeability.
The ones that are exciting at the time are the ones in which it's the underdog who administers a beatdown. So, much as I admire Serena, her losses have been entertaining, just because you are watching them thinking "Serena's going to find her game... her opponent can't possibly keep this up, can she? ... yes, she can!"
Not a GS, but since it's in the poll, nothing can even come close to the 2012 OG humiliation. I can picture the double "special" dose of Meldonium taken for the occasion only to cry for the total helplessness - I mean, it must hurt to realize you just got more doses of medicine than games on court. :spit: Biggest "top player" pigeon EVER.
In GS the most hilarious must be 2014 Wimbledon final, aka "When the hype gets murdered". Just beautiful. AO 2007 a close second.
Has to be Wimbledon 2004. So much sponsorship was on the line that day. Only match I can compare it to was Wimbledon 2014 Final (also had a ton of fame&sponsorship if the young blonde won) but 2004 was bigger stars, better players
But that win over Oudin, with the US crowd about to go wild, that should be here!
Sharapova's Wimbledon 2004 Final was probably worth over $100 million to her. Its who she beat, her age, where it happened. So much has to go right to get the big sponsorships
That was exciting because we didnt know what we were watching but we knew this was big. Sharapova just turned 17
Not a final, but Kvitova just disposing of Wozniacki like she was a used tissue at 2010 Wimbledon is one of the most amazing and entertaining matches EVER!
