Sharapova will have as many bodyguards as Madonna for her comeback in Stuttgart

"Maria will have as much security as Madonna for her comeback tournament in Stuttgart. Vladimir Putin and Yelena Isinbayeva have openly defended the tennis star. A Russian manufacturer of cookies and snacks has launched a new lollipop with a tag that says “Without Meldonium”.

"...Women’s tennis is currently facing a major identity crisis. In order to make headlines, female tennis players such as Caroline Wozniacki and Genie Bouchard have to pose half-naked for the Sports Illustrated bikini issue. Serena Williams might not even come back to professional tennis after she will become a mother next August at 36 years of age."

Tennis does lack stars, but that's only due to the fact Serena was so great. If she wasn't Kvitova, Azarenka and even Sharapova would have won more slams. And aga and Wozniacki probably wouldn't be slamless.

Once Serena was gone we all know this would happen.

And Masha. Well, I will wait for her results to speak. I am annoyed with all media attention on her, TBH.

True, but you can't look at things that way. If Serena was out of the picture everything would change. On paper you could say Venus would have won the AO this year for example (she lost in the final), but equally someone who had lost to Serena i.e. Konta could have come through that section and won. Vika lost a lot of tough matches to Serena at slams, two of them being finals, but it's too difficult to say how things would develop. Without Serena perhaps Makarova would have won the 2014 USO. :spit:

I think it's understandable. You don't know how the audience will react so it's better to be safe than sorry. If they see it's all right, I'm sure they will loosen it up a bit.

The amazing thing is that NOBODY was really talking about Sharapova before she made her Medonium announcement last year. She had bowed out meekly in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open to Serena, and her ranking was dropping. Now she is the biggest and hottest commodity in women's tennis, feeling tanned, rested, and ready to play tennis again. She may go down in history as the first player to BENEFIT, both financially and status wise, from a lengthy drug suspension.

It's amazing how many people think they can make something be true just by mouthing the words. Are you on acid, or what?

I don't think she's in any increased danger of physical harm. Though it only takes one nutcase so I guess it makes sense. OTOH I think the emotional/mental pressure of the first few months back is going to be intense. I hope she has a skilled and trusted psychologist on board.

Sharapova can afford her own security. I dont see much talk about her besides here & tennis media
Lets see how she plays and if her body can hold up if she has to play 3 hours day after day
Right now, Serena being pregnant, Nastase and Sharapova are the topics of the week.
But new stuff will come up and if Maria is not contending for titles, interest will settle down and tennis media look for another story

Exactly. I see a normal amount of media coverage for a popular player coming back from a controversial ban.

I for one am looking forward to see Maria Sharapova on court again - It has been way to long - I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is anxious to see her play again - I'm certain that some "Masha haters" are too (hoping that Masha will be out in R1 already of course) - I had some good laughs about all the hateful Masha comments here on TF but I just want to say this to all her fans....Don't despair all you Masha fans - Our favorite is back again as popular as ever - The majority (that is all her followers but also her commercial backers) knows that it was a (stupid) mistake and that Masha's conduct both on and off court has always been without blame during her whole career - Good luck tomorrow Masha!!

This is for all of the Maria haters to help them get through the night. Maria has SUFFERED TREMENDOUSLY from being banned from the tour for over a year. People have lost interest in her, tournament directors are dodging her calls, and she can't even get a prime dinner reservation at Nobu (she had to settle for a 6pm seating). She will probably get routined by Vinci tomorrow.

Feel better, now?

Escort her when she has toilet breaks.:oh:
