Who would have guessed it would be Julia rather than Angie who was the star of this tie.
It was a very impressive effort by her to beat both Tsurenko and Svitolina here.
And of course it is a disgrace that for all her efforts and success this weekend she will still not be able to play in the tournament played in the same stadium next week because some Russian coming back from a drug ban took the WC Julia rightfully deserves.
Now hold on a minute. There was still a second WC. That should have gone to whichever player was nominated to play singles along with Kerber on the first day, as they were the most deserving of it. But it didn't. So in the end, neither WC was allocated with the needs of the German FC team in mind.
If I were in Julia's position, I would be of a mind to never, ever play Stuttgart again.
If I got it right, the winners of the play offs are seeded. So Germany don't have to play against the top countries in the first round next year. I may be wrong.
Julia gotta feel happy for her to claim the wins here, especially after the fall against the US and again slipping on the clay early in the final set against Svitolina yesterday
Julia is a class act, very sporty this week and I'm proud of her for what she did for her team and country, especially given the circumstances. The losers are Stuttgart, not Julia. They should be disappointed to not have Julia be a part of their tournament this year and ultimately, she should never play their ever again.

It isn't really necessary. This situation will hopefully be the best motivation for Julia to improve her results and she will have direct entry for Stuttgart next year by her better rankings. :yeah:
