I rather doubt that. Plenty of women don't even know they are pregnant in the early stages of a pregnancy. And I have to check for an exact count, but there have to have been well over a hundred slam singles winners.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Well come with some proof instead of guesses. Until then I go with Serena. And we are talking female gs champions(ws,wd,md and wheelchair). I hope we can eliminate any girls' champion.

Re: Serena Williams: First pregnant player to win a Grand Slam title?

Jimmy Connors alleged in his book that Chris Evert had an abortion when they were together. Don't know the timeframe of that, and of course it's not been substantiated by Evert herself.

Goolagong's daughter was born in May of 1977, and I briefly thought the 1976 Australian Open was a December slam, but no, that started in 1977 (incidentally, Goolagong won the 1977 Australian Open seven months after giving birth).

Margaret Court's had three kids while playing, the first was born almost exactly 9 months after she reached the Wimbledon final in '71, but obviously that's not a win. The third was born in 1976, and she hadn't won a slam since 1973, so that's out.

I can't find the date of her second child's birth, which was sometime in '74, but she won the US Open in '73, so if the kid was born in May or earlier, there we have it.

Unless somebody can find the date on Court's 2nd child, or someone can verify a miscarriage/abortion, I think we're looking pretty far back in history!

Re: Serena Williams: First pregnant player to win a Grand Slam title?

the closest to serena's achievement was, margaret court lost 1971 wimbledon final while pregnant, and evonne goolagong lost 1976 us open final while pregnant.

her son was born on december 21st. most women's first child normally gave birth before due date, and rarely after due date. she was barely pregnant at miami. she probably was not pregnant at indian wells if the maths is right.

The child (Marika) was born on 25th July 1974 so no, Court wasn't pregnant when she won USO '73

Less than 50 in the Open era, according to Wikipedia.

But to do so in the 5th(?) to 7th week is very courageous and at the same time (for me) careless (stretching suddenly, slipping etc.) even if she got the GO from her gynecologist ...
I think she knew she was pregnant there.

I really doubted she is pregnant when I read already "20 weeks"

I dunno, Xena Warrior Princess was still doing backflips and beating up soldiers when pregnant. Serena is probably the closest living person to Xena so..

Re: Serena Williams: First pregnant player to win a Grand Slam title?

But I don't think Evonne was pregnant DURING the 1980 Wimbledon Championships Meelis.

Her child wasn't born until May of 1981.
