Huge win for Simona's mentality...maybe. She needs to build on this, and not be satisfied with another QF.
I've never seen her win a match after being down a set and MP. It helps to play Stosur, who was just signed by the Atlanta Falcons after that performance.
Wow To be fair, Sam's level didn't drop outrageously, Simona started playing amazing from 5-3, 5-4, and took back control. Big serve and FH on the MP, Sam had no chance. Some great points in that second set :yeah:
Simona She's really upped her level here. Very slow start but got much better as the match went on. Has a great shot against Konta, then Venus/Sveta/Kerber.
Didn't get to see the match as I was at work. I looked at live scores at work and saw Stosur up 6-4 5-2. Was it a choke job or did Halep greatly raise her level?
Too bad for Sam. She really had Simmons on the ropes but couldn't finish her off. At this stage in her career she really needs to take advantage of these opportunities.
Welp, looks like Halep made it about two days pain free. It appears as though she's incredibly injured again. Poor thing just can't catch a break!
Simona has such nice strokes and good fitness.
I'm conflicted whether I should believe she will win a GS one day (like with Radwanska with whom I lost all the hope)
Simo will win a RG as her first GS if not this year then next. She wont be slamless help anymore. Just too much class in her. Radwanska however never will. 0.001 chance. Halep is light years in front of her in all departments.
Pls dont speak as if Sam choked. Simona slept from 4:2 0:30 in first set and then woke up. There was no chance for Sam once she lost first points serving for a match. She played above average but apart from that few games Simona was having tantrums bcs of how Sam was hitting, she really stood no chance. Simo was amazing. No shame losing to this in form Simo really.
Konta has a lot to worry, since Dr. Halep will have a painful treatment ready for her. This Simona knows how to hit, attack, serve and defend. No flaws at all. Seriously.
Simona started 3-4 speeds slower than yesterday, despite the early lead.
Sam brought her FH and could do just about anything with it, giving herself time to run around the backhand even outside the doubles lines. Simona's FH on the other hand was left at home after yesterday's match, as she just couldn't miss the net with it.
Then as @Rogue. remarked at the last moment for Simona and sadly a very well known moment for Sam's fans they made an exchange of FH's and the rest is history.
Simona used her rearmed FH and kept rising and becoming almost as aggressive as yesterday.

I feel asleep after Simo choked away a 4-2 lead in the first set and then got broken in the beginning of the second set. I just woke up and had a look at the score and I can't believe that she actually won. It looked impossible at the beginning of the second as Sam was actually playing well. I'm delighted with the result. Simo is definitely improving. She would have lost this match comfortably at IW. QF is already a good result for her as I didn't even think she would win a match here. I don't know who she is playing next but I won't be annoyed if she lost now. She got the confidence booster that she needed before the clay season so a positive tournament for her.
And they call Halep a pusher ????
The girl is a fantastic ball striker. Sometimes she strays away, depending on I don't know what... But when she is striking, it's a beauty.
Who is that dude that quoted me in his signature? Please underline it. Because I meant it.
The End.
Wow, Simona's forehand added some zip out of nowhere. Is Darren finally having an effect?
I'm buying her stock now. She will win a slam.
It goes to show that you can learn how to hit hard even if it doesn't come naturally. I remember Cibulkova doing that years ago when she took 6 months off the tour just to add pace to her groundies. Woz should get that guy now that i think about it (Zlatko? he used to coach Dinara)
At 4-2 for Simona in the first set, I said in the live commentary thread that she's not winning playing like that. Why it took her so much to find her range only she knows (I hope), but then she delivered
