I hope she stays healthy. She has too much talent to be ranked where she is now
Its hard to have those big expectations at a young age and she has to get her focus on her game and get some wins
It's not really a smart decision when she doesn't have other options.
She's ranked 135, she doesn't have a protected ranking and she doesn't have unlimited WCs. And she hasn't exactly been competitive at WTA level this year.
The long, hard slog back to where her talent merits will hopefully be good for Belinda in the long run.
Acapulco, Linz and Hertogenbosch are only Internationals she played in last 12 months. No wonder she is out from top 150. Time to get smarter with schedule. This is a good sign.
I don't know It could be good for her to gain confident but If she keeps losing in ITF tournament, her confident will be ruined
She should play internatinonal level instead of big tournament after the comeback
Anything less than winning the tournament would be disappointing, so it's not really a "smart" move. There's definitely some pressure and expectations on her here. A bad performance would show how far she's fallen.
Hopefully going away, somewhere where there are no player parties or distractions will help. But.....if she doesn't win, or loses to someone way lower ranked.....then, it could backfire...
Dead at people mentioning the likes of Krejcikova and Cabrera :ignore: :haha: This year Bencic has easily beaten Parmentier and Pironkova and her worst loss is probably Bertens who is a top 20 player. She is low on confidence and that's it. It's a dumb decision to play this 50k when there are lots of weak internationals coming up. With her barely playing internationals since she came back, it was probably her team forced her to enter this tournament and I highly doubt she'll give enough fucks to win it but even a R1 loss won't really mean anything.
She should've played Charleston where she has played superbly in the past and then her home tournament in Biel. If she would still keep losing, then there are tons of ITFs on clay to get some wins before RG Q.
I'm sorry, but you sound like you are majorly in denial.
Her confidence is at an all-time low, she couldn't even close out a match against Errani after all the momentum was on her side after the 2nd set. Stubbornly pretending to still be a Top 50 player and keep playing WTA level events is the worst she could do, she'll keep running into better playing, more confident opponents and she'll keep losing, making it all worse.
This is the first smart scheduling decision she's taken in quite a while, what she needs is match play and wins (confidence), dosen't matter at which level. There's no shame in playing an ITF if you're in such a deep slump as she is right now. This isn't just a few bad matches, and the fact that you had to bring up a win against Parmentier at a glorified exho (ironically, Parmentier was entered in the same event) to make your case that things ain't so bad is speaking volumes.
It seems like everyone in this thread who thinks this is Bencic's choice doesn't understand how tournament entry works, or doesn't know she's ranked 135 now.
She's not getting into most WTA MDs until she picks up decent-sized points. And she needs the kind of match play she's not getting at WTA level.
Sad thing is that if she gets a bad draw she might not even win many matches here. She will surely make QFs but Dodin, Alexandrova or Hsieh would surely all beat her Indoors unless she really raises her level.
