Is Alize Cornet a wasted talent?

She reached her highest ranking of 11 at the age of 19 back in February 2009 and reached her biggest final the year before in Rome.
Since then, her ranking went up and down inside the top 100 and couldn't be consistent enough to match her highest ranking.

Marion Bartoli - Michelle Larcher de Brito - Serena Williams - Venus Williams - Tamira Paszek

She'd be top 10 if facing Serena all the time

Her game is nothing special, really. And she goes on like a drama queen most of the time. So no.

She's done just fine. Those wins over Serena were really fun.

I don't think she gets given enough credit for her game. If her mentality was just a little better...

Re: Is Alize Cornet a wasted talent?

If she could relax during her efforts and stay clever, I think she would get better results.

Her game is complex, why it's beautiful and entertaining to watch when it's on. But so physically demanding you don't think Alizé can make a 7 wins streak one day - though I believe in miracles for the sake of it.

Re: Is Alize Cornet a wasted talent?

Alizé should have a Grand Slam quarterfinal by now but I seriously doubt she will. She seems stuck in the mid top 100 regions (40-60 rank) with the two or three good tournaments per season (the first one usually before the Aussie Open) and not hungry/fit enough to get back to the top 20.

Re: Is Alize Cornet a wasted talent?

She had match points at a major vs Dinara Safina and couldnt close it out. I remember that. Then a dropoff and a little resurgence.
There is a lot of parity on the tour and a player like Cornet has to really focus and compete to get thru a draw.
I think anyone can catch a good draw at a major or mandatory a few times and be top 30
But its a hard grind both physically and mentally
I dont really see her as a top 10-15 talent

most definitely, but in recent years she's hardly been fully fit.
