Heart: Mirjana
Head: Pliskova

They've had some tight matches and Mirjana should have won in Wuhan but choked serving for the match
But, Karolina should have won in Canada, but appeared to choke (I only followed the livescores) from a set and two breaks up.

It should be a display of great ball striking. Whoever makes the other move more should win.

This match up always seems close (big chokes included)

Although all the meetings were before Pliskovas 'breakthrough'

Lucic is wrapped up like a mummy at the mo, lots of leg strapping.

Ostapenko pushing Pliskova so close must give her hope

Would be a great story if she can win, Pliskova has many years infront of her, this is Lucics last chance to achieve something big.

She was already Top 10 in their last two meetings. But she's definitely improved even further since then.

karo most likely as she is elite now and should play accordingly. furthermore she will be very well aware that she doesn't have to face aga as it was projected in this QF but a fellow power hitter, and that might motivate her even more to reach the semis.

I would love Mirjana to win and with her all or nothing game if she peaks she could take it. On the other hand she is just as likely to turn into an UE machine. On the plus side she's had a great tournament and exceeded most people's expectations already so anything more from here is a bonus.

If she's carrying an injury I'm surprised she's still in the doubles. You would think that a slam QF against a player she has beaten (and lost to only narrowly) in the relatively recent past would take priority. Perhaps the strapping is only precautionary.

I would like nothing more than for Miki to make the semi's. I hope she can take greater confidence into the match knowing that she has beaten Pliskova twice before on faster surfaces. But i know it will be no easy task as Pliskova is in much better form that the last time Miki had a victory over her...But then again, so is Miki :wink2:

The heart says Miki in 3 :bounce:

The mind says Pliskova in 3

I wasn't impressed by Pliskova's ground game against Ostapenko or Gavrilova - in the final stages against Ostapenko she was routinely overpowered in rallies - but her serve was on point and she's also hustling well for her standards.

Lucic-Baroni's body is the worry - she's obviously carrying some minor aches and pains, but historically those have been enough to throw her off her game. It's dependent on how she holds up physically.

Lucic has the better ground game. Both have attackable second serves. I think Mirjana returns first serves better. I don't see there being many breaks if both are serving like they have been. It should come down to nerves and who plays better on the big points.

I will give an arm and a leg (and the rest!) for Mirjana to get through to the semis. I would love for her run to keep going. She is such an inspiration!

As much as I like the feel-good story of MLB getting to the final, I just can't see her beating KP at her own game...

time marches on.

I love KaPlis' game, but I have a soft spot for older women who go for broke and who may be having their last chance at glory. A little different with Coco and Venus, Coco's already 25 and Venus has a bunch of slams already.
