ruthless, and she wasn't even particulary good on first serves.
some good stuff in patches by blinky tho, her groundstrokes are as clean as crisp and she has a good serve. there's potential for the 18 year old. :yeah:

Hardly ever seen somebody underperform as badly because of nerves as Anna until she was down 0-6 0-4. Looking at her career ascension a match against a Top 5 player on such a big stage came incredibly early, as she has risen up the rankings fairly quickly without a shitload of WCs.
She really gave a good account of herself towards the end of the match and getting on the scoreboard should do her good. Hopefully she can get over this quickly and continue her very steady rise throughout the year.
Once again she had such a great attitude never getting down on herself and it paid off with two games in the end.
Karo was magnificent for most of the match with some random errors inbetween. Next match however will be the first real test in this tournament and it will be interesting to see, if she is really fully over her slam demons yet.
After the Brisbane final loss, Cornet descibed Karo's serve more difficult to read than Serena's. Maybe it has sth to do with Cornet's very good record vs. Serena, but it's still interesting.
Karo is now trying to bring to perfection her balltoss - i.e. to have it all the time completely identical and not to give the opponent even the slightest indication where the serve is going
These really easy matches might not be that great for her. Sharapova also dragged the field in 2013 until the SF and then when she met a first good opponent she was surprised.
yes she lost like 13 games en route to semis and then my fav Li crushed her.
but otherwise I'd say still a strong result if Pliskova makes it that far.
Impressive, but I still wouldn't judge too early: if she finally curbstomps Radwanska - should they meet, ofc - then she's probably ready for a big big title. Until then, jury still out.
God, people never learn. Every Slam, the top player who rains down bagels in week one is proclaimed the favourite regardless of her opposition.
Sorribes Tormo was going to be hammered whoever she played. She won three games against Jabeur in Shenzhen qualies and three games against Cepede Royg in Hobart qualies.
Blinkova is so new and inexperienced she was playing 10K qualies this time last year.
These scorelines are good but meaningless.
It's way, way more impressive that Serena has come through two former top 10 players with her scorelines.

a semi-constant injured BB and lucie slumping like no tomorrow for over half of a year now.
k, whatever helps you to deal with karo being a top player these days.
