No rain. No pain.

second set was an accident :oh:

Aga had to deal with Team Bulgaria cheering for Pironkova. She was off her game. Lots of errors.

Third set: A few breaks of serve. Aga having to deal with Team Bulgaria screaming. But she wielded her tricks and crafted the balls well and came through with the win.

Phew, crazy scoreline! Rad! :yeah:

Aga was really good in the first and third sets. She also forced everything to Pironkova's forehand which proved to be a smart tactic. Why on earth she stopped doing that in the second set I can't explain. That set was ugly minus the game with the tweener and an equally impressive rally right after it.

Take it round by round and improve from here Aga. :bounce:

Phew ... Aga won! The highlight was amazing twinner from Agnieszka in 2nd set that was also paradoxically very bad from Radwańska - let's prefer it did not happen, otherwise not very memorable match.

Pironkova's forehand, yikes. Has it always been so bad? :tape:

Aga was playing okay. She nearly got exposed as a mental midget in the second set though when she panicked after failing to rush for the win. So bad at taking chances. Good shot at another SF here. Best shot since 2013 WB for the title if Serena somehow loses before SF.

Topsy turvy doesn't even begin to explain this match, so here are my thoughts from each set.

First Set: PEAK Aga. Kept Pirru on the FH side, moved her around like crazy and kept her off balance with lots of slices. Great stuff, match looked NID.

Second Set: Absolute shitfest from both, but Aga managed to be much worse. Aga forgot all of her tactics and started making insane shots and then super basic rally errors. Ever want to see a FH worse than Pirru's? Aga in this set delivered it. She deserved to lose this set and Pirru punished her with her great BH.

Great Tweener though

Third Set: Aga got her brain back and decided to use the same slice, FH and moving around tactics that won her the first set. Pirru fought well to break back but couldn't do anything with her service games. Ace on MP from Aga

This match does not bode well for Aga winning this slam, but I guess we all thought the same of Angie this year. Aga will need to improve a lot (play like set 1 for a whole match please) if she wants to make it to the QF to face Pliskova.

Aga played quite well. She actually played so many times to Pironkova's forehand that it started to heat up and actually did some damage in the second set. Box of trick was opened in the third, great rallies in the first three games, that all went to Aga. Cruising after that.

Lucic-Baroni next. :scared:

Based on Highlights it look like an entertaining match!
great points from both, and that tweener

Aga is 10-4 in 3 setters at AO :bounce:

Lucic-Baroni next, Come on Aga !!!

Tsveti

I don't see how Aga wins a slam. That game is too slow and too weak.
The young Aiava would have committed a crime here with her booming serve and heavy groundies.
Aga's shots are ripe for a decent player to kill. Pironkova defeated herself, gifting easy points with tons of UEs.

Baroni is likely to gift tons of UEs too. LOL.. But if her shots are landing (which is a rare thing), Aga will have a hard time.

Good luck Aga for the next round. You'll need lots of it.

How about looking at match stats before you post.

Aga: 79 points won - 32 errors from Pirru means Aga won 47 points all on her own. 28 of those points were winners, and she hit more than her opponent did tonight. This means she forced Pirru into making 19 errors.

Also cute shade about her needing luck. Save your wishing luck for Halep in future, she needs it more when facing Lucic.

At least no mental breakdown as in Paris last year...

but saving energy would have been an uppermost goal for the difficult tasks ahead (Lucic/Cornet?/Vesnina?/Ka-Pliskova?)
At least it was straightforward at the end.
I'm still confident Aga will make it to the QF, hoping for another SF.

Nice winners against Pironkova who feeds slow balls for Aga to toy with. Just push it one side and hit a winner the other side.
With heavy balls, Aga can't push and open the court because she can't toy with the balls.

Halep's gone. She was in no shape, mentally or physically to beat Alexandra Stevenson here. :) :) :) Yes, my girl is going through a rough time, but she'll be back. So let her rest wherever she went.

Let's talk about the players that are still in the tournament. I like how Pironkova played that 2nd set: aggressive..no cheap errors and Aga couldn't do much. That's what I am talking about.
I am no Aga hater, just giving my observation on a very slow match. Those 80 winners have no real weight. She won't hit those against someone that gives her heavy balls. We've seen that time and time again.

Wow, this observation is so good and pointless at the same time. It's really hard to hit winners against hardhitters - and also - pointless if you make them force it outside the court.

Having a look through the thread, I see nothing unexpected. Pironkova trying to junkball, but Aga forcing her all the time to the FH and make Pironkova UE like there's no tomorrow. The tweener looks really cool and Tsveti's new outfit is gorgeous also. :inlove:
