That was a pretty bad match from both players. Timi playing way too far from her ground line, capitalising on Giorgi's errors. That girl is a real mystery. She sometimes has the most beautiful strokes of the tour, can create winners from every spot of the court and might be related to Flash Gordon, but at the same time, especially when she is in lead, multiplies the unforced errors as Jesus did with the bread.

I really hope Timi will play a way more aggressive tennis in her next roud against Kovinic

AO17 R1: (12)Timea Backhandsky [SUI] d. Camila Giorgi [ITA] 6-4 3-6 7-5 !

Timea's forehand was dire... :help:

Went with the slice 80% of the time and the result was a dodgy mid-court puff ball.... :(

She was lucky Giorgi wasn't able to bring it today...

Hit the forehand Timea!

You are so much better when you hit it with authority! :D

Timea was really annoying: yelling come on on the worst errors of the opponent and doing nothing more than waiting for errors.

Of course Giorgi was too inconsistent and lost. The flemish eurosportcommentator called her tennis casinotennis and it's really true.

So disappointed

Giorgi  That was a gift. She really is a very frustrating player to watch. Timea didn't really have to do anything other than puff it back and wait for the mistakes on key points.

Happy for Timea though, she is blessed with a good draw here, hope she plays better to capitalise on it.

Giorgi looked stunning...one of the best looking tennis players I have ever seen. She's a throwback to a past era when the players were feminine and beautiful. I changed my avatar in honor of her. :hearts:

Unfortunately, if only her tennis was as good as she looked. Too many errors. I thought she dominated the match, sending Timea off the court and out of camera view many times to return the ball. She played far up inside the baseline when facing Timea's serve. But, simply too many mistakes. I wish she was a better player because there's something there that WTA could market.

Timea didn't really show anything this match other than she could chase down a bunch of balls and wait for Camila to self-destruct. Blew a 5-2 third set lead before hanging on to win. Camilia had a couple break chances at 5-5 that could have turned the match but couldn't convert.

Was there the whole match
Gotta agree with the Camilla comments
Pretty, so much potential but bloody dumb
Desperately needs a coach to help her being savy
Timi was bloody gutsy, got really nervy and forhand fell apart - had to slice
Watched her taken yesterday and again today and have to say she is so fired and fan friendly taking 20 mins to sign autographs and take selfies
She is a sweetheart and I wish the the best
Alex Fusai and Mary Pierve watched on as didn Vicky Golubic, whose coach/ partner congratulated Timi, coach and Boyf at the end

I was courtside for most of this too. Agree with what you say. Timea really battled this one out, and deserved it in the end. If Camila could learn a bit of finesse she would be a danger to anyone.
