Serena Williams has won 22 Grand Slam titles, but doesn't want to give up yet. She has a good chance to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Majors. Serena's coach Patrick Mourataglou said a few months ago that she can get to 30 Slam titles, but Serena is aware it will be very difficult. She doesn't want to set goals. '30 is a lot, but my goal is just to go out there, do the best I can and be happy,'the world no. 2 told Bein Sports. 'The only way for me to do that is to win every single match; that doesn't always happen and that's something you have to understand and learn to deal with over the course of your career. But there is no number for me; I just want to go out there and win.'
Speaking about her Wimbledon won, Williams said, 'Wimbledon was good for me. Obviously, I was really excited to win that this year. I had a lot of tough matches, but I went in there and played the best I could. We went in with a wonderful game-plan, and it worked out.'
The American will start her 2017 season in Auckland.
Had we been going into, say, the 2002 or 2012 season, then no way in the world would she have made this statement. Serena knows she's not getting any younger, and she don't have all that much long to go. As much as she done, as much as she's given, as much as she's accomplished, everything from here on out, is icing on the sweetest damn cake! With that said, I think the goal is just to get past Steffi and then aim for Margaret Court's record! She knows that is still realistic, even with her peak days behind her. Granted she is healthy, she can still go out and rack up a few more majors if she truly wants to. Serena is still her own greatest competition.
She doesn't need to win 30 slams. Her career is pure gold anyway. She won all slams, every tournament existing, she has an Olympic Gold. She can reach 30 only if she wants to play that much. She got to that 22 and I'd be happy, as a fan, if she can reach 23 or 24. Sometimes, to achieve a goal, it's important not to aim so high from the beginning.
Margaret's 24 is asterisk city, let's all be honest. You can't compare winning an open era major in the 2000's to her cupcake 4-6 match draws at the AO in the 60's.
Clicking on a Serena thread in GM is like being caught in a time warp. The same old detractors with the same old points and predictions, that 95 times out of 100 turn out wrong, rushing in to post 'em.
I don't even waste my time anymore.
The arguments are always specious, and the same buffoons caste the same damn stones using the same damn useless reasons.
Then we wind up "bumping" the threads and making fun of the same damn posters.
Shit gets tiring after 21 years.
 Court, Court.. it's cool. She has the 24 majors.. only thing I wonder is then: How the heck did Graf become the G.O.A.T.? 'Cause she trails Court by 2 majors too and we never heard nothing about no Court before.. now Serena has 22 and it's yeah but Court..
The majority of Court's grand slam wins was prior to the Open era (1968). She did win the calendar year GS in 1970, but won in last GS tournament in 1973. Graf and Serena share the Open era record of 22 .
Court's record of 24 grand slam wins has always had a bit of an asterisk by it . Eleven of her majors was at the AO and only 3 at Wimbledon . The AO was not on par with the other 3 slams at least not until the 1990's at the earliest ; Court won nearly half her slams at the weakest tournament and won the biggest tournament , Wimbledon, the least .
I really think its just on her... if she wants to reach 30, she will reach them... injuries permitting, of course
I would love her to try and get the Mixed GS too, tho... she could try it once she beats the 24 singles GS... and just try to make it to the Olympics in 2020 so the sisters can both retire together there ^^
