Is it safe to say...

that Sharapova, Mauresmo, and the Williams sisters had an unfortunate time for a bad day. Were the heavy conditions really a factor or is it simply an excuse aka look at Henman winning over Escude.

i think their opponents had GOOD days. nastya was able to retrieve nearly everything very very deep and that is not at all easy.

dementieva was out of her mind good

jennifer stayed confident and played solid and used her forehand well.

maria is young and not yet all that when it comes to patience or variety and adjusting to it

IMO only Sharapova could use it as some excuse to her poor play... The other players are all very experienced and should know better how to play or should be able to adjust to these conditions

I think the conditions help too. The balls were uber dirty

I think that Sharapova's result could have been different. Serena's and Venus's results would very much likely be different in lighter conditions. Elena D. would have won anyway - in that match it was hardly about conditions at all.

i think sharapova would have lost anyway, but perhaps in 2 tight sets
serena may have won her match, but i don't think jennifer was too excited about the conditions either. so really it was a match to see who was going to adjust better.
venus... well i think she would have made her errors anyway. once again, myskina doesnt like the way the court was playing yesterday
as for elena, i think she would have won her match easier
wasn't heavy conditions more suited for amelie?

I think it affected Venus the most.

Paola is the better player, IMO, compared to Sharapova. Sharapova is not known for her consistency, so it is no surprise that she isn't peaking in every match. I think that Dementieva is in great shape and that she is fortunate that both Davenport and Mauresmo failed to take advantage of her weak serve. And Capriati has had bad days every round in the tournament and she still goes through to the semis now..

sharapova looked to be playing like she was on bubble gum the entire time. none of her shots had any penetration and she couldn't move. the movement could have been nerves, and paola just plaed great. i do think though that conditions played the biggest part in this match, then in venus's match, and then in serena's.

elena would have won anywhere anyway with how she played today. the heavier conditions favor mauresmo.
