Best ground game at the French Open

1)Elena Dem.

2) Jennifer Capriati

If they should square off in the final Jenn, has the better return of serve, and the experience of having won this title should prevail.

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

im always put off when i see people list their greatest groundies without a mention of elena d.
she has the best combination right now, IMO. she moves just as well or better than capriati and they really could have an awesome match in the final if that happens. but let's not forget, paola and myskina aren't in the semi's for no reason... they've beaten good opponents.

Myskina is not that bad off the ground either. If she makes the final I think it would still be pretty good.

Well based on todays play Dem, was really going for her shots, Myskina was keeping them in play....

Lena's groundies are though quite surface-dependent. Her backhand needs time and becomes a liability on quick surfaces. But for clay it is a very good shot with tremendous acceleration through the ball. And there was only one forehand in tennis history to which Lena's forehand is not a match..

Well Elena D really destroyed Momo from the ground today....Momo was always on the defensive...I must say that a Serena in top form still has the best groundstrokes out there, but Elena is up there too.
