Smile I'm Sad For My Faves - But happy for Women's Tennis

Hey All,

Attention Williams' fans. Let's cheer up - and hope and pray that our girls stay healthy.

Well - needless to say - I hoped for an all Williamsí semifinal - but alas - it was not to be. Neither one of them have anything to hang their heads about - because they both have done well since their return.

If Serenaís knee was bothering her - that is so sad. Yet - if her knee had been 100% - Jen still might have won it. These two always play some fantastic matches. Iíd say - better luck next time - Serena - and good luck to Jen in the semis.

In Venusí case - and because she starts slow at times - she just couldnít make it up in the second set. She played too tentatively at times. For the most part though - Myskina played her game consistently and wouldnít let Venus get in her comfort zone. Venus became hesitant and unsure of herself - and when she does that - the errors pile up. Who knows what would have happened if she would have converted on the three break points she held in the final game.

Anyway - I still say that since Venus and Serena lost their matches - it might be good for the game of tennis in that - it canít help but make it more competitive and exciting womenís tennis.

I am a Williams fan - but I also love the game of tennis. We all have our faves - but does any of us actually think our faves will win all the time? If Venus & Serena play five more years - does anyone think theyíll win every match they play? What is up with that? I would bet big bucks that even though V&S go into each match thinking they will win it - they must know that they WILL NOT win them all. So this is a tourney that wakes them up even more to that realization.

IMO - this will give them a challenge and incentive to do better in every other tourney they play and perform in for the rest of this year. Doesnít everyone need a challenge of some kind - in order to keep it interesting and worthwhile?

Having competitive players in womenís tennis canít do anything but help it. Some were counting Cappy out last year - by wondering if she should retire. Now - how does that sound? She believed in herself - she knew she still had some major wins in her system - and she has proven it. I even believe that if Martina Hingis came back - she would win more than she lost - if she got her serve together.

So - my thing is - I can deal with this losses easier knowing that my girls are still in the game of tennis. Whether they win or lose - I am still a fan. I love to watch them - but I also love to watch tennis - period. Whether itís the Williams or Belgiums - they will not win every match they play. Tennis is wayyyyy too competitive these days - and that is the way I like it. I would have loved for at least one Sister to have made the semis - but since one didnít - life goes on - it is not the end of the world - they did the best they could - the best players won on this day - and they will all be back. Good luck to them all in the semis.

Hereís hoping they all stay healthy. Iíll be in Alabama for Wimby.

wow, a great piece of analysis

-Oldest game in wtaboard, started in April 2000 even before wtaworld is born.
-You can create your own player, making their own name, making their personality.
-Some player has been playing for more than 10 years

Great summing up. We all have to live through disappointments - but they make the victories that much sweeter. I think it is a real shot in the arm for women's tennis that we're going to have a Grand Slam singles final without Serena, Justine, Venus or Kim: it's good for the other players and the fans of players other than those four to see that the competition is open and anything's possible, it's good for the media and the tour publicity people to have novelty to write about, and ultimately it's good for SW, VW, J2H and KC because it's going to motivate them to work harder, get better and produce top tennis.
