Venus-Pierce stats

Code:
Match Summary (63-61 Williams)

				Pierce*(FRA) Williams*(USA)

1st Serve % 34 of 64 = 53 % 33 of 52 = 63 %

Aces 1 3

Double Faults 1 4

Unforced Errors 32 16

Winning % on 1st Serve 16 of 34 = 47 % 24 of 33 = 73 %

Winning % on 2nd Serve 13 of 30 = 43 % 11 of 19 = 58 %

Winners (Incl Serve) 16 27

Receiving Points Won 17 of 52 = 33 % 35 of 64 = 55 %

Break Point Conversions 1 of 8 = 13 % 5 of 11 = 45 %

Net Approaches 4 of 6 = 67 % 7 of 11 = 64 %

Total Points Won 46 70

Fastest Serve 171 km/h 182 km/h

Average 1st Serve Speed 156 km/h 168 km/h

Average 2nd Serve Speed 137 km/h 137 km/h
Venus's numbers are pretty good, going into the 4th round. She has a very decent winner/UE variance (27- 16= 11); 2nd serve winning % is near 60%; the ace/DF variance, though negative, is acceptable (3- 4= -1). Net work is Ok, 7/11; at least she's willing to go there, thereby keeping the opponent guessing and under pressure.

Mary's UE's really killed her; 32 UE's with 16 winners will never do it.

Venus' stats look good. But I hope that she will come to the net more because she gets better results when she stays aggressive and keeps coming to net.

Now I'm convinced Venus's ankle is Ok. I'm watching her right now and she's running full flight and stopping by sliding. She's doing her mini steps for proper adjustment, dancing (!), and above all maintaining her focus. Good omen for reaching the final; but that's 3 steps away.

Venus is on track for peaking at the right moment. The only two things I'd like her to add if greater frequency moving forward to the net (because that just improves her overall game) and greater sharpness and bite to that forehand.

Someone is quietly turning back the clock...to them bulldozer dayz...

Always on the lookout for a great tennis match.
