Round III Saturday Predictions

This scares me. The higher seeded player is clearly superior both on clay and ingeneral in every case. (Asagoe and Dulko are neither seeded, so who knows?)

06 Myskina vs -- Chladkova

** It's not a favored surface for Myskina, but Chladkova just isn't as good a tennis player. If Myskina is patient, she should win here.

11 Kuznetsova vs -- Casanova

** Straight sets

23 Zuluaga vs -- Srebotnik

** Zulu had a real nice clay court season

04 V Williams vs 30 Pierce

** Venus won in straight sets the last two times they played on clay.
** Mary hasn't beaten Venus since 1998.

07 Capriati vs 25 Bovina

** Cap's game doesn't involve a lot of risk. Can't see bovina taking this.

17 Schiavone vs -- Ruano Pascual

** Schiavone. But this is one where an upset isn't all that unlikely.

-- Asagoe vs -- Dulko

** ?

02 S Williams vs -- Talaja

** This is Supergirl vs Wild Thing.
** Silvija really isn't even going to effect the outcome.
** If Serena keeps her head on straight, no sweat.

Exclamation

I agee with all of your predictios. Having said that, the three pepole who will be ripe for an upset if they do not play well are Anastasia, Venus and Jennifer, with Venus being the least likely to be upset. I just took a look at a recent picutre of Mary and I really can't see her getting to a lot of Venus' returns in the shape she is in.

"Schiavone over Ruano Pascual"

If Ruano wins would that really be an upset?

I mean if Venus beat Myskina would that be an upset?

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

Something that doesn't make sense is going to happen. I just can't figure out what. Certainly casanova over Kuznetsova would fill the bill, but going into this tournament, I'd have said the three strongest Russians on caly were Petrova, Zvonareva and Kuznetsova. For ALL of them not to make it into the 2nd week would be kind of a shock.

Schiavone had the better clay court season, and is ranked higher. Infact, Ruano Pascal didn't even PLAY a singles match between Charleston and RG.

ChladKova vs. Myskina (2 sets)
Kuznetsova vs. Casanova (3 sets)
Zuluaga vs. Srebotnik (2 sets)
Venus vs. Pierce (very close match, 3 sets)
Capriati vs. Bovina (3 sets)
Schiavone vs. Ruano Pascual (more wishful thinking, but Virginia played very well in her 2nd round match, so I think she can beat Schiavone)
Dulko vs. Asagoe (3 sets)
Serena vs. Talaja (2 sets)

If Serena struggles to reach the QF, she clearly is having issues on court. Her draw is by far the easiest of all the top players. I don't think there will be any upsets tomorrow.

VRP "upsetting" Schiavone wouldn't be a huge upset, I don't think.
