Is Silvia Farina-Elia Underrated?

at this time last year a lot of people were calling for her to retire (i remember having a long argument with king lindsay in particular), but she had a big turnaround winning her 3rd straight strasbourg title and then lost to venus at RG and made the quarters of wimbledon beating chanda and taking a set off clijsters.

she seems to have developed into a player who really puts up a great fight against the top players having held dominant positions in matches against both clijsters and mauresmo this year, and she just seems to be a genuine threat at most tournaments without anybody really noticing.

i think she has a good shot at a 4th straight strasbourg title considering her history there and the fact that lindsay hasn't played a match on clay since being dumped by patty in charleston.

what do others think.

She is a perfect top 20 player. She's never been strong or consistent enough to make the top ten, but she ALWAYS comes out to play against the big players and if they don't watch out, she could beat them. With some luck from the draw...she could be an RG QF.

Yeah, Silvia is really underrated. When I saw her match VS Clijsters at Wimbledon, I was just....

The way she played that first set was unbelievably good. Too bad she keep that level that for the remainder of the match

But she does has a great chance to capture Strasbourg title #4 this year, and I really hope she can

I seriously think she is underrated, but sometimes I think being underatted is quite good because people don't pay too much attention on you and you would have more privacy and freedom, she is a good Top 20 player!

Is Silvia definitely playing Strasbourg then? She clearly said after winning last year 'In Italy there's a saying: never two without three. I won't play here again'....

Silvia adores to play in Strasbourg. She won the title three times and she would like to defend her title again. Anyway, she is gonna lose many points, if she is not playing!! She is on the draw.

I think compared to Jana Novotna and Natalie Tauziat, Silvia is underrated because like those two, she found success later in her career, but I don't think she is as well known as those two.

Personally, I think she is a fun player to watch, but sadly is another example of a player that just wants to play tennis but is not marketed as a household name.

Farina is not underrated. She is a player who has always come up short in important matches, never really shown much nerve when it matters most. She has zero wins over top players in the Grand Slams, zero GS semi appearances in like 12 years on tour. She's a good player - but not underrated.
