How this one is a slam winner???

She showed constant horror shows throughout the year, truly pathetic

Sevastova looked like a champ compared to Mug.

USO R2 Anastasija Sevastova def. Garbiñe Mugurutha 7:5, 6:4

Nice job Anastasia! Lost two break advantage in the second set, but recovered. You go Girl!

BTW, Sevastova is a cutie. She could be a big star if she won more of these big matches and maybe a couple of big titles...

Beautiful result for a truly talented girl.

Muguruza is a sad, unfortunate girl who can't even properly emulate Ivanovic's flop form post-RG win since at least Ana was #1 in the world

Sevastova was playing great up until that choke near the end. Luckily for her, Garbine changed her mind and decided to tank instead.

Ga-Mug  She really has no plan B. I predicted a Kvitova-like career for her after her RG win and she seems to be even more inconsistent than Petra.

That was just shockingly bad
Everything we see in Ivanovic we now see in Muguruza

Sheer panic

Muguruza :help::help::help:

Only a small slump or is she becoming the next Ivanovic/Bouchard ?

Happy for Sevastova :)

Sevastova was about to produce the choke of the year but Garbiñe gifted her the last game  had she held I doubt Sevastova would have recovered.

I'm sorry but Sevastova was just as bad as Garbine for the most part. It sucks someone had to win this horror show. I really feel bad for Cliff Drysdale. He seems horrified and bewildered having to call some of these WTA shit-shows. I emphatically feel his pain.

And if I have to hear Phil Collins one more time, I'm going to cut a bitch.

Strong era.

The saddest thing about this match was that Sevastova wasn't really playing that well herself.

Can you imagine players like Davenport, Clijsters, Henin, Seles, Pierce or Capriati losing to Sevastova? Even Testud and van Roost wouldn't have any problems with her and yet people on this board keep telling me that womens tennis has such a great depth today. It only has a great depth because "topplayers" like Kvitova, Keys, Muguruza and Co are flopping big time. And it will only get worse once Serena retires..

Muguniacki :SNE:

Bossed around from the baseline by Mertens. Bosses around by Cepalova, by Sevastova, by anyone really.

She was pathetic in the first round, and all year really, apart from RG and the match against Azarenka, so this was hardly surprising, at least for me.

Wrecked by nerves she can't let out anymore with that fake zen like attitude. The usual half-paced grinding shit she's been doing all year and second set total collapse (only disguised by Sevastova choking) Doesn't go for her shots anymore. Doesn't play DTL shots anymore. Doesn't move forward anymore. Plays like a lethargic Wozniacki, which is not cute to watch at all.

Sam has pretty much destroyed the fundamentals of her game. If she doesn't take this as the final wake up call to fire him and start again from square one she's going to become the biggest slam winner flop ever.

Too true, Sam has also clearly told her now she is at the top she needs to act arrogant/calm/aloof (whatever you want to call it) and the wins will just 'come'. He even said something similar about her presence a few weeks ago in on court coaching. She needs to fight and get fired up as currently she just looks like she doesn't even care she's flopping.

Oh and yes, everything you said about her game is true. It's completely changed.

I also think there's the fact she used to be ranked 'lower' then have to battle through top players (or who she perceives to be top players) and beat them, and doesn't seem to understand what to do when lower ranked players bring a game to her. Kinda like Ginnie boo.

Wow! What the F was that Binye? Girl was getting bullied all over the court by a player i never heard of, can't even take advantage of a choking lowlevel player in the end:facepalm: Anyway, not complaining of her being out though, because she is no more a threat to the no1 anymore.
Congrats to the winner, i like that Andy Murray like forehand of hers btw.:smile2:
