For the PS2 probably Sega Sports Tennis (with Venus & Serena on the cover) or the PAL version of WTA Tour Tennis(the first release). Smash Court Tennis 2 comes out this summer but if it's anything like the first one it's not worth the purchase. Hope this help.

do yourself a favour, sell your ps2 and invest in an X-box.then buy Topspin.it's the ultimate tennis game and beats every other one hands down.otherwise, if you can;t do that,Virtua tennis 2 on the ps2 is the next best thing.

BTW, Smash Court Tenns 2 is coming out in July on the ps2 but it doesn't look like it will be any good judging so far.the last smash court was awful,the career mode and selction of courts was awful.

ITA Sega Sports Tennis rocks, although sometimes it annoys me how the computer players know exactly where you are going to hit the ball.

"I want to do things on my own terms, I can't have anything take me out.
I have never given up and it's important for me to prove to myself that I can do this, and to prove to me that i'm a champion.
If I were just to sit down, lay down and give in, then I wouldn't have any respect for myself."

Yeah, for PS2 Virtua Tennis 2 is by far the best in Game play.

However WTA Tour Tennis' (PAL version) career mode is simply unbelievable. Nothing beats it, not even Topspin's career mode.

I have to agree with Kimmie's_Boy here. On PS2 - If you live in Europe/Australia and you are lucky enough to get the ORIGINAL PAL version of "WTA Tour" Tennis then that is the best tennis game of the lot in terms of the World Tour. Simply brilliant. It is the game with about 14 little pics of the top women players on the cover eg. Serena, Hingis, Monica, Capriati, Henin etc... It is not the one with only Jelena on a blueish cover. That is a crap game IMO and was released in Europe/Australia under the name of "WTA Pro Tennis" and was released in the USA as "WTA Tennis".

After that, Virtua Tennis 2 is the next best game on PS2. Great for doubles in multiplayer mode. It is also known as Sega Sports Tennis in the USA.

But I am looking forward to Smash Court Tennis 2 due out next month. It has many of the top players and all the official Grand Slam courts. I just hope the game play is a bit more realistic than the first version as it was rather crappy. I think this new release sounds promising.

But, if you have x-box, then Topspin is a great tennis game. Highly recommended for multi-player - singles or doubles with friends. And can be great fun against others around the world on online play. The only downfall is if you are only going to play by yourself because the world tour is not that great although it isn't too bad compared to some other games. It soesn't compare to the PAL WTA Tour game on PS2 (but then again, no tennis game does).

So there you have it. In summary:

PS2 (PAL version in Europe/Australia):
* WTA Tour Tennis (original version with pic of 14 women on cover)
* Virtua Tennis 2

PS2 (NTSC version in USA):
* Sega Sports Tennis (same as Virtua Tennis 2)
* Wouldn't bother with the USA version of WTA Tennis (this is also known as WTA Pro Tour Tennis which is available in Europe/Aus and it's basically crap)

x-box
* Topspin

Well on June 8, PS2 is coming out with a verry promising game that has been discussed here a lot: Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2; the game looks amazing!!! my advice: wait until it gets out.

Lucie ''Lucka'' Safarova, Petra ''KvittyGoat'' Kvitova, Sabine ''BoomBoom Bine'' Lisicki

Yeah, smash court tennis is pretty bad. It took me like a few hours (spread out) to figure out how to beat everybody, no matter what level, 60 60. The 2nd one looks interesting, but I won't buy it until I read about it carefully .

does anyone know if sharapova will be in any of the games set to come out in the future? she is the future of tennis, and has a lot of fans. why not put her in it? I'm sure she could take over kournikova's slot in the games that idiots still put her in? I won't buy a tennis game until Maria and Roddick are in it together! so gimme some good news!

Well it doesn't matter really, because with TOPSPIN on x-box and Smash Court Tennis 2 on PS2 you can create your own player with their name etc. So you can create your own Sharapova and/or Roddick. And you can get them to look very realistic on Topspin too.
