"Everybody still thinks I'm No 1. "

"Everybody still thinks I'm No 1. Anywhere I go they say, 'Oh my God, you're No 1, aren't you?' and I say, 'Yes I am!' If I try to explain to the regular public in America who is No 1, they've never heard of her. So I just say, 'It's me! It's me!' Why not?" -Serena Williams

"Hatred is the coward's revenge for being intimidated" - George Bernard Shaw

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

Well it's actually kind of true. At my school some kid saw me looking at Venus Williams and Serena Williams photos on the WTA Tour site and the kid asked me if they were the Williams sisters. I said yes. And he said which one is the one that won 22 grand slam things. I said that was Steffi Graf. A lot of people are mis led, only people who watch tennis will know what is really going on.

And I had when people post these stupid quotes because we don't know what the context of the question is.

It's partially true : every one who doesn't know tennis (and there are many) will say that the Williams are still the first and the second.
But, those who just look at some sports information know that they're not anymore.

Most of the public here probably think Serena and Venus are still 1 and 2 as well! I guess its easy to think that because they still win a lot of tournaments and havent really had a lot of losses, and you would think they were ranked one and two if you didnt know about the injuries.

That´s the thing....only because of the injuries they have dropped so low. Because who has beaten them to the top?! No one!

I have no quarrel with what Serena said, but why hasn't Henin-Hardenne been more marketable? After all, that is what educates the "regular public," no?

I have news for you, the average person still thinks Mary Pierce is
in the top 16 too! It's no surprise, the non-tennis person only
ever watches WIMBLEDON.
