Robson is destined to drag Aga in R2, therefore she will win this match. Fate has decreed it so.

On the positive side, at least one of them will be in R2. But it's a shame one of them will be knocked out by the other. I''ve gone for Laura in 3 (head, not heart. Heart-wise, I can't choose)

Naomi will rip winners all over the court with her Henin-esque single handed backhand.

Any chance of a Scot girl on the rise? You have a good quality of girls in athletics and swimming so why not in tennis?

Simona Halep - 14 WTA titles in 3 years

Good question. Obviously the weather doesn't help, and there are fewer indoor courts even than somewhere like Norway. There hasn't been much investment in infrastructure on the back of Andy Murray's success, which is something he, Judy and Jamie have pointed out a few times.

There was talk of Maia Lumsden for a while, she won the Orange Bowl a few years ago and went to the Netherlands to train. I've seen her play and she is quite crafty, but I don't know how far she can go. She's 18 and ranked around 700.

Also Ali Collins who hails from Dunblane like the Murrays and is now training in Florida I believe. She's 16 and got a WC into junior Wimbledon where she got breadsticked by a top seed. We might get a better idea on a year or two.

Judy Murray seems to have been quite involved in mentoring the two of them. Hopefully one or both can make it onto the main tour.

Naomi should be too much for her. But Robson keep shocking people lately by winning 3 matches in row

The bookies are heavily favouring Robson, which even being ranked 150 places below Broady says a lot. Naomi has ben in awful form lately and I don't realy see her pulling this through.

Re: US Open R1: Battle of the Brits - Broady vs Robson

I think this is the first meeting in Grand slam singles between 2 female British players since Claire Taylor v. Jo Ward and Rachel Viollet v. Megan Miller at Wimbledon 1996. i.e. 20 years ago.

For the other grand slams I think you have to go back to the Australian Open of 1987 when Anne Hobbs defeated Sara Gomer in the 2nd round.

This may not say very much for British womens' tennis over the last 30 years.

I voted for Laura to win in 2 sets as the better player.

Robson has been even worse, the fact that she qualified has shocked us all. She was struggling at 25k level. Broady struggles when you can defend against her. Robson cant defend. It will be first strike tennis from both. But Broady has better serve and better returner

Things have changed drastically in Laura's game recently. Her defence is much better, her serve has improved, she is fighting harder and staying mentally in the points/games for longer.. This isn't the same girl that's been flopping in 25ks. It will be a tough match though if Naomi's serve is working.
