New Haven R2: (6) Petra Kvitova def. Genie Bouchard 63 62

Wimbledon 60chard almost made a return. :help:

Honestly not even going to try to defend her. What a NID match that was.

As I said in the Live Commentary thread, I knew the moment Genie wasted the 3-1 40-15 lead in the first set she would stop playing well and struggle to win games and thats exactly what happened.

Both played really well until then but after that Peaktra started playing with even more confidence and Genie just started missing everything and stopped believing. Played well again at the the end when she was down 5-0 in the second but it was obviously too late.

Genie is so predictable. She should truly start studying at Yale instead of just promoting it. Maybe she would grow a brain.

Interestingly, the first set of Petra-Genie is always 6-3

Genie really has to game plan for Petra, she goes in with nothing and has zero tennis IQ to draw on during the match, and keeps getting owned by Kvitova. If Genie wants to stop getting these kinds of results against her, she needs to in with something different.

Yeah, Makarova will be a tough match for Kvitova. Always is.

That was brutal. Almost hard to watch.

After that rickety first set against Chirico, Petra seems to have found her mojo again. Only time, and a match with her fellow lefty, will tell if this is a real revival, or yet another false dawn.

Routine poutine as always. Even Shitra is a nightmare matchup for Genie.

That was just sad, Genie's real level always exposed badly by Petra! :tears:

Genie doesn't have a single weapon to use against Petra, it looks like this match up will always be determined by whether Petra shows up or not. It looked like she gifted a couple games at the end, just for some extra hitting practice! :help:

The secret is out, any player that can return at the same pace or better than Genie is pretty much guaranteed a win. How many easy put away winners did Petra have off of weak bunt popup returns from Genie? ... too many to count! :tape:

Same as at the 2014 London Massacre, Angie flat-out refuses to move 2 or 3 feet back from the baseline and give herself sufficient time to get a solid strike on the ball. Hugging the baseline may work against Cibulkova and other 5'1" oompa loompas, but it's only going to earn you an embarrassing beatdown against Petra.

bouchard too basic, has she ever gotten more than 4 games in a set against petra? she tries to out-aggress petra but her technique and game simply suck too much, way too erratic. at least she avoided the bagel

 yeah, that's a little performance for Bouchard standards...

The future of this Jenny gurl (as a relevant tennis player) looks hopeless, unless she could somehow buy a brain.
I wonder if she ever watched the replay of her matches and made an assisted professional analysis of her game style. If she really didn't so far now it's too late because she turned back to that impostor Saviano with his narrow vision about tennis.
I always marvel at how this freak makes his players figure the fence of the court being one meter behind the baseline.

OTOH Petra relaxed in the end of the match after coming from 1-3 to 6-3 5-0, it's human to lose part of your focus while facing such a poor opposition.
