I've just learned that my home city (Prague) will host the inaugural Laver Cup, pitting Europe against the World. The event is inspired by the golf Ryder Cup and will feature Federer and Nadal playing in one team. Borg will be the captain of Europe and McEnroe for the World.

What do you think about these exhos, especially considering player's packed schedule, Davis/Fed Cup, need to rest, etc. Do you think women should launch sth similar with Graf, Evert, Court, Goolagong, Seles...? :)

There's a similar exho in Hong Kong several years ago (without the retired WTA players/legends though) ;) Held in early Jan.
Back in the old days when Russia is good enough to have their own team :sobbing:

Anyways, exhos could be successful if you have the $ to invite the top/famous players

There's only prize money for Laver Cup, no appearances fees if that's to be believed. Yeah, right.

Most players will skip Davis Cup citing a busy schedule but they'll find time to play this exhibition for a huge paycheque and they'll all pretend to be the best of friends for the week so that their agents can sell them as perfect gentlemen.

I have said a few times in GM that WTA should have a 2nd big event, besides WTA Final (YEC)
One option is a team competition, either in January or after Miami
Another option is a mid-season Invitational playoff. Then WTA can choose between rank, race points and fan interest. And they can ask players privately, so they will announce the field when all the players have already accepted privately
If the money and points are extremely big, like WTA Final, they should get a good field together. They would need a city to want it and pay for it, like they have with YEC over the years

The European women would crush the rest of the world. If Serena has an off-day, we would very probably get swept.

6x6, The Euro Team has four players in the top five, and their whole team comes out of the top eleven.

The World Team right now would be Serena, Venus, Keys, Kuzzy, Stosur and Pavly. Sure it's four slam winners, but they're all over 30. That team eight years ago would have a better chance, even though Keys would be thirteen and Pavly seventeen.

From St Petersburg and Samara respectively and therefore both European. On the plus side, Nyagan is on the other side of the Ural mountains so if Sharapova manages to convince CAS that she was hard done by then you can have her.

I agree, but on the other hand Laver is really a huge name and a hero for many great players, men or women. For example, Navratilova decided to turn professional after Laver had won his second calendar-year Grandslam.

So besides the $$$ I think there's some genuine and candid intention to pay a tribute to Laver.
