If Kerber will pass Serena, it would be very strange for Simona Halep because Serena's been ranked no.1, since she's turned pro. 'But I think Kerber deserves it because she won a Grand Slam and she's winning many matches. So we will see,' the world no.5 however added in Cincinnati after her loss to Kerber.
'The only one player I learn (from) I can say is Serena always. (I learn) motivation, fighting and aggression from Serena,'

No worries. After 13 consecutive match wins she was 'due a loss'. Now without the added pressure of a 15 match win streak she can start building a new streak. ;)

she def could learn to serve from serena. and hit a BH.
You don't think Simona hits a very good Backhand? Sure, you can always improve (even Serena) but this comment is just . I thought you'd remember how good it is from last year's USO QF. ;)

If that is the case, then why didn`t you finish the last homework your teacher gave you? You got to do better in your next lesson to get a grade A, that last one was some D- shit. Sweet but slow student:grin2:

Aren´t there some rules about opening deceiving bait topics?

Halep said:

Talking about Kerber's ascension helping in the improvement of self-belief for other players, Halep added, 'Yeah, of course. It's a good thing for us that we are thinking, we have dreams to get there and win Grand Slams. I think she deserves to be there because she's working hard. Like I said many times, she's a good player. So we will see. But she has a good chance.'

Her fan base certainly has learned much from Rena's...

inventing injuries, the Excuse-of-the-day Calendar, the other player would never have won if she was playing better, ...

Have I left any out?

Wow.
Not a single positive post from such a nice compliment, so I guess I'll be the first....

Thank you for the kind words made towards my fave Halep.
And I'm sure that Serena appreciates your sentiments and respects you as well.

Aside, and observation-wise....
What a bunch of sour bastards in this thread. :oh:

Great standards for Simona - first Justine, now Serena. :worship:

So, let's go start winning slams and becoming the best.

So many misunderstandings in such a short thread ...

ATTENTION!!! A LONG ASSAY MIGHT FOLLOW!!!

1.) There are MANY PLAYERS who are better at one thing or more than Simona. This DOES NOT MEAN that Simona can learn from them. For instance, CSN, Vinci, and Flipkens all do have beautiful one-handed BH slice shots (fully missing from Simona's arsenal) which are quite effective in certain cases. But Simona is NOT AIMING to learn this kind of shots, partly because she's too old for that, and partly because she's playing in another style. Also, she can compensate the missing 1H-BH slice in other ways. ==> She's NOT GOING TO LEARN this shot from its masters.

2.) Or there are excellent lefty players, like Kerber, for instance. Kerber has a really amazing lefty FH-CC shot against the more vulnerable BH of the majority of the players. There is a video evidence showing that while Simona plays with her right hand, she kicks the ball with her left leg. (==> She's a hidden lefty.) But this DOES NOT MEAN for a second that at her age she could or should learn to play the lefty tennis! Also, as an answer she has a rather good (one of the bests) two-handed BH-DTL and BH-CC shots. (This might also be related to her "hidden lefty" nature.) ==> She's NOT GOING TO LEARN this shot from its masters.

3.) And there are the big girls with serious power (compared to Simona), like Muguruza, Keys, Ka Pliskova, Venus, Azarenka, (Sharpova+meldonium), etc., having rather big advantage at serving, over-head smashing, and opening angles. But Simona is NOT GONNA BE ANY TALLER. ==> She's NOT GOING TO LEARN this style from its masters. (She has to compensate it with smarter point construction, etc.)

4.) Simona's problems are lying mostly in the tactical/mental departments. Also, Simona's main strength is her still present learning ability. We can say that while at skill and physique levels her tennis is already MATURED, at the tactical/mental departments is still very young. There is much more to come!

5.) So what is Simona learning, and from which other girl (or man) can she learn it?
First of all, Simona is learning from her couch Darren Cahill. On the other hand, Darren sees very well that Simona can really learn from his advice. (Excellent collaboration. :yeah:) Most of this teaching/learning is in the mental/tactical department (surprise, surprise).
And here comes Serena Williams, the well deserved dominant World No.1, a living legend still on the tennis courts, and with a still hugely UNDERRATED BRAIN!
Simona already could learn certain very important things from her (others are ongoing) lying mostly in the mental/tactical departments (surprise, surprise). For instance, how to handle injuries (already quoted but misunderstood in this thread), how to balance between the tournaments of different scales, how to handle critical situations like tiebreaks (still a lot to learn), how to gear up the aggression level (still a lot to learn), how to self-control the temper, how to save the power/energy (some progress), and so on.

Now I'm NOT going through the supposed names. But it is really funny to think of Wozniacki, Kvitova, Kuznetsova, and even Sharapova regarding my last two points . (Venus could have been a valid role model, but unfortunately she's in another age group.)

I don't know why this has transformed into a Halep-bashing thread. Every player learns from Serena, she is the greatest after all

First this Halep bashing thread, then it became a soccer thread, then ye started talking about men's tennis.
I'm sorry but :SNE:

Serena is the perfect player to learn from, but I really hope she isn't the only one. Simona should take something from every match she plays...

Sheesh, if I were to walk into this thread and not read the headline, I would have thought Halep said something mean about Serena.

I for one do like Halep a lot and I honestly dont see why she gets so much hatred from you guys. All she said was shes only learned from Serena. Now of course that doesnt mean, shes going to go out and win 2-3 slams every year and destroy the competition. She was simply referring to mostly the intagibles.

I for one found it to be sweet of her to say and I'm sure Serena will appreciate it.

It's TF.com.
Very little ever makes sense on this board; and especially in GM.

I've always like Halep as well.
She completely remodeled both her body and her game.
That's just how serious of an athlete she is.
How can people not admire that level of dedication?
And to have her make such complimentary statements about the GOAT only increases her stock, IMHO.

Aside from some of her seriously mentally deficient fans, Halep herself is an exceptional talent who I enjoy watching; and a very likable personality.

But jealousy makes people vapid fools when a player like Halep takes their craft seriously and outshines other fans' faves.
