Odd match yet still kind of amusing. Stephens looked completely deflated and flat while Camila was bouncing around with adrenaline the whole time, yet the score remained close. It didn't look like Sloane was too invested in the match, really if she had shown up with an ounce of energy she probably would have won but instead she just let Camila whack every single ball.
Congrats Camila, the more motivated and focused player won.
Sloane looked distracted and slow all match which was painful to watch.
She's just fallen into a hole since Charleston
sloane is actually one of the most popular players in here...
if she wins, especially big matches, she has more fans than almost anyone else other than Serena...
Nice one!!!!! Some stunning points from Camila. Honestly if this girl could just play a tiny bit more controlled she could win these and many more matches easy!
Well done.
I gave up watching this match when Giorgi was down 0-4 in the 2nd ... was planning to pick it back up in the 3rd! Should have known better, this is WTA
Tonight was Monday Night Headcase Tennis, starring Camilla Giorgi, Sloane Stephens, and Nick Kyrgios! :spit:

I also believed that Cami is going to throw away the 2nd. But she changed her mind, and maybe her mindset in this respect! If so, this is very welcome :yeah:!
Sloane just doesn't have the focus to be a consistent top 10 player. She is the Grigor Dimitrov of the WTA, so much talent, so much expectation, but, constant disappointment. She can still turn it around, but, she has to somehow find that mental toughness....it can come from great coaching, but, she has to want to be great. I'm not sure she does.
Incredible Camila!
Sloane serving for the first set, and Camila wins the tie break!
Sloane leads 4-0 in the second, and Camila again wins at the tie break!
You are an angel and a devil, sweet Camila!
Can't blame Sloane on this one. Saw the tie break of the first set, Camila was unplayable. Or Sloane should have made winners all the time, and it's not her game. Probably should have played more deep to keep Giorgi from hitting winners.
Generally, I think the defensive chop is lazy and useless. Sloane (and some others on the tour) does that a lot on return (or each time she's late in the rally), it's not enough. It just exposes you to a winner on the third shot.
Only Aga manages to make something of those defensive chops, it's her thing and she anticipates the next shot better.
Camikaze
Even DFmila has worked AGAIN, she played incredibly well important points and that comeback from 0-4 and not flopping!!!
Glad that my girl took those points, she needed them so bad. Winnable R2, just keep it up! :yeah:
I love these people saying that it was just Scone blowing leads with Giorgi-gurl fighting back. I guess they didn't watch the first set then because Giorgi blew a 4-1 lead there. Oh and Sloane was only really lethargic at the end... it somewhat looked like she sustained some kind of injury because she was having trouble moving to her right, even the commentators were mentioning it. They were both moving and bashing balls really well in the first set. I think a lot of people didn't actually watch this whole match.
Sloane served for the first set: broken. she lost the TB badly.. She wanted to push and wait for errors; Giorgi was hitting winners.
Then 2nd set: she was pushing and waiting. and Giorgi couldn't hit a ball on court.. In no time, Sloane was up 4-0, double break.
And of a sudden, Giorgi's heavy balls were landing. lol lol.. 6-6... and she won the TB.
The match depended on whether Giorgi was missing her wild power shots.
End of story.
to be honest almost every Cami match depends on if her shots lands in. Outside of Serena I dont see who can beat Cami when she is completely on. Just too much hitting power
Stephens isn't perplexing or baffling. She's just like any 10-30 ranked player whose level is very variable from week to week. She's far from the only one in that ranking range with these sorts of results.
Maybe it's time for people to dial down their expectations of her.
I'm a fan of Sloane... I think we've known of her potential since the '13 AO... But everyone jumped the gun and shot her past the finish line before the marathon even begun after she defeated the GOAT...
