wow :eek: Another junior scoring a good win on WTA level.

Whatever happened to Sam Crawford? Was the Brisbane run a big fluke? Although beating Bencic and demolishing Petkovic doesn't sound too impressive considering the season they're having.

She injured herself in Charleston (broke her hand I think) and didn't play until RG. Still too early to tell whether it's a fluke or so.

Bencic started her year pretty strong though... and yeah beating Petko means nothing nowadays :sobbing:

^ The pictures above were taken the day before on Friday, practice day.

Bianca's defense was awesome. I thought she would have more trouble against Sam's heavy serves but no, most of the time she was returning it nicely and deep. Lots of nice winners, well, enough for her amount of UE I thought. She finished both sets by raising her level, but got tight failing at serving for the set at 5-4 in set #1. She was perfect in the TB winning 6 points in a row from 0-2 down.

In set #2, Bianca was down a break. Fought well to overcome her opponent's rising confidence. She finally broke Sam to make it 5-5, Then it was like Sam knew she wasn't going to win because Bianca was turning every shot into offense. Crawford was just missing too often long or wide being rushed. :worship:

Bianca is already way above where Genie was at the same age... If she can stay healthy, she could become Canada's best female player at some point.

I'd love to see her beat Bondarenko, if nothing more than to see her play her first WTA main draw match to see how it goes.

Just heard a lot of people saying Canada finally got a promising female player;

anyone can tell what's her health issue? Is it temporary or she's prone to injuries?
She's prone to injuries because she plays a very physical style on the hardcourts... sort of like Rafa, without the excessive topspin.

She was the only Canadian to win her first qualifying match today, and was the only Canadian to win a match (pre qualifying) last year as well. (as a 15 year old)...

*To add a note on the stress fracture, not sure how bad it was before the AO junior, but she was definitely forced to withdraw (being the #1 seed) from Aussie Junior (after winning her first two matches) and never played Roland Garros.
