Whats up with the wrong names.

This was taken http://www.jandscup.pl/eng/news.php#53.

Svietlana Kuzniecowa and Venus Williams will play for the title. The J&S Cup 2004 would be the third title for the Russian, the first this year. The thirtieth, and second in 2004 for the American.
They played each other twice before, each winning once. Venus won 6:4, 6:2 at the Australian Open in 2003 and Svietlana took her revenge two months ago in the quarterfinal in Dubai, the Russian won it in straight sets 6:2, 6:3. Both of those matches were played on hard courts. Tomorrow they will play on clay.
This is Kuzniecowa's third final in 2004, she lost to Justine Henin-Hardenne in Dubai and to Anastazja Myskina in Doha. The last player to beat the Russian was Caroline Sprem (1/8 - final in Miami).
Venus is on an eight match winning streak. She won the tournament in Charleston. The last time she lost was to Jelena Dementieva in the quarterfinal in Miami.
The final starts at 2pm.

lmao.

It's not that absurd, actually. Those names are originally from languages written in the Cyrillic alphabet. In order to convert them to the Roman alphabet, there are variations in approach. This Polish site has apparently chosen spellings which work in the Polish system of pronunciation.

It is interesting, though, how on the site they freely switch between spellings, like the choice between "v" and "w."

The real absurd mistake is on www.cnnsi.com/tennis.
Venus is gonna face Zvonareva in the final for the second time in as many days.

Yeah I think so too.

In English it's Kournikova,
in German Kurnikowa
& in Dutch Koernikova.

See?
